It's probably not the case since it's built on feels, but it feels to me like Couts has outright beaten goalies more this year than in the past. He always had an accurate shot, but it's been a shot goalies have been able to read. Perhaps, maybe, his release has improved.

Or nothing has changed, who can really say.

His shot looks harder to me (TWSS). In the past when he scored goals they were on floaters or picking up rebounds near the net. He's more of a threat from 15 feet out now.

This is my hope. You could always watch replays of shots where he was stopped and routinely he'd have it labeled for open net, but then lost to the goalie.

Here are his goals from last year. I count 7 goals where he clearly beat the goalie from more than 5 feet out. Most of the goals are off redirects or rebounds. Not sure if he has more this year.

Well hot damn. That was an enjoyable game. A great ending, but the team actually played well for all but one big rebound and defensive breakdown. Sure, they got hemmed in more than than one would like, especially in the second. But teh puck generally stayed toward the outside. JVR, the "sniper" we've been clamoring for, coming to fruition later in the year. Coots, the man, the myth, the legend. (But he still hasn't cracked 40 goals, so I see him as a high level 2nd line center, PK specialist, most definitely.)
Keeping hope alive, the dream isn't dead.

As discussed earlier in the thread, this was a game-saving moment and it should not go unnoticed even in contrast to the two goals.

The recap:

Wasn't this because the Penguin whiffed on it though?

I'm not trying to be a Debbie-downer on Provvy's moment, but it made me less-impressed when I realized he lost the race and the dude just didn't get wood on it

The effort was visible. He didn't quit. The team could have utilized that principle and applied it as a unifying moment. That could be simply aggrandizing on my part but when caught in the heat of the battle, teams have been known to rally around such plays.

Something-Something-Something not a real captain
I thought he should've gotten the 2nd assist on Coots goal. The puck clearly goes back to Ghost, and both the Penguin and G are moving forward. It's unlikely the Penguin player would drop the puck back to Ghost, so...

But yes, not a real captain. On this, we agree.

Giroux flu game > Jordan flu game
If only because G's playing, meant we didn't replace his roster position with AMac as the 7th D, your taek isn't the worst ever given. But, some measure of realism, it's necessary.

Always a pleasure eating the Penguin's lunch in Pittsburgh regardless of the "meaninglessness" of the game

Crosby owned by Coots in OT
Provorov with the hustle play to save the game
Myers continuing to impress
TK producing regardless of being criminally underused
Hagg on the ice for the goal against after a failed clear where he had plenty of time
Lindblom and Patrick continuing strong play
JVR continuing to be a waste of money with 20 goals since Hak got fired or something wild

Hart was outstanding. His positioning made dangerous shots look like routine saves. Was impressed with how Hart seemed to make some adjustments compared to his first outing against Pittsburgh.

As for Emrick, his teams have always been the Penguins and Devils. He broke into hockey as a reporter covering the Penguins and was the Devils first ever PBP announcer in the early 1980's. Emrick and Clement (who was actually a one of the best color commentators in his day), were the Flyers TV broadcast team during the dark ages of the early 90's. Emrick never seemed too enthused with the Flyers gig as compared to his NJ and ESPN duties after leaving the Flyers.
