I imagine he survives the year for 1 of 2 reasons.

1) since we are so close to the season’s end. Botts will just ride out the season and deal with it in the offseason.

2) Botts doesn’t feel Phil is the problem and plans on keeping him for next season.

God help us if it’s #2.
