They have EVERYTHING to do in today’s game. Carolina is a perfect example. A group of guys that can skate the puck out of danger or make the smart play to get it out and then join the rush. And the skating ability allows them to close on the puck carriers quickly and snuff out plays before they get started. The Oilers did a good job of putting pressure on tonight, but with a defense like that, you’re going to have more success than failure.

Goaltending is obviously hugely important but a mobile defense can cover a lot of warts.

They gave up 40 shots. Carolina did not play well in their own end. If that was Darling in net, they get smoked. Hell if that was Talbot or Koskinen in net, they get rolled. Good goaltending will cover up mediocre defense. Mediocre goaltending won't be covered up by good defense.

Mcdavid feels like he's hit a wall and has no confidence that he's even going to score. Probably feels like the whole world is against him now with this roster, the art Ross loss, the obc and the weather and distance from home. Oh and the constant no calls.

Terry Jones was spouting off recently that their big problem is they can’t win at home. No Terry, they can’t seem to win anywhere they play. What an ass.

Not going to deny that goaltending is #1 priority. But to say a mediocre defense is okay is just wrong.

Half those shots are pad shots that Grandma could stop. Puljujarvi's shot looks like he's shooting with a foam noodle.

What are the odds Tobias Reider doesn’t score a goal this season? Amazing. I said 2 months that he was a bust but I find it incredible he still hasn’t scored. Mind you, when you see him play it answers most of the question, but still, nothing even off a shin pad or a shoulder?
