Their shootout skills didn't magically disappear.

It's such a coinflip in general that as long as you're not putting out guys like Braun, it's really not worth worrying about.

I have no problem shitting on AV, but I don't think there's really anything to be too upset about here.
But maybe there is lots of film on Jake that he usually does the same thing.

Hell...we all expect him to go wide, swoop in, and try and go 5-hole. So why wouldn't the people paid to know?

Giroux should be a god in this city. I'll never understand people who blame him for a decade of mediocrity. Can't judge his leadership having never been in the locker room, but it's not his fault he's been surrounded by shit defense, goaltending, and depth most of his career.
What’s wild to me is he is getting better. Everyone was ready to write him off after two poorer years in 15/16 and 16/17. His last four years have been very good, especially given his age.

“FreeRide” is one of the best players on the team and is third in scoring, while being severely misused all year long.

I am glad he has hands of stone then, imagine his point totals increase and the cap hit it would lead to if he had better hands :dunce:

He gets underrated because the point totals don’t match the quality of play in the last three years. A large part being because of the PP bullshit.

He’s also utterly destroying the “he can’t play C” and “he needs Couturier” narratives.

Isles fan coming in peace.

Giroux is a GREAT player. I used to stay out of the Tavares/Giroux debates because I knew Giroux was slam dunk better.

good game tonight. When CarterHart isn’t hung out to dry by his defense he’s very good.

Happy Easter

I agree with most stuff you say, but I think you're way off here.

Some players don't shoot 50 to 60 percent regularly because of luck and guys like Voracek don't have low percentages constantly because of luck. It's not exactly small sample sizes with a guy like Voracek.

Shootouts are their own skill, essentially breakaway abilities in a controlled environment without the panic or adrenaline rush that occurs in a game. Voracek doesn't do well because he always does the same move, has a relatively weak shot, and is bad at the shootout. Other players tend to do well because they have an insane shot or because they're very creative and unpredictable with what they're going to do on top of puck handling skills.

We're historically a bad shootout team, with largely the same veteran forward core. Not just coincidence we're always at the bottom of the league with it.

Fun fact: my facebook memory for today was me posting that the Flyers post harder than a porn star. I said that a decade ago, literally. Time-stamped memory from 10 years ago.

Still rings true.

We lost this game because we had the worse goaltending, for god knows what amount of times this season. Our PP was bad, our shootout was bad. Islanders were only 1 for 5 on the PP, we were 0 for 3. They really weren't much better there at all. Hart went 22 for 24, .917. Sorokin went 30 for 32, .938. Their goalie didn't let in a SO goal, ours did.

I'm not exclusively blaming Hart or even attacking him specifically. We can point out the numerous flaws on this team all we want, including bad D and bad special teams and bad coaching. No team is winning when your goalies are posting historically awful numbers on the season, when they're regularly the second best goalie on the ice, and when .917 is the high point of your goaltending performances. That's around average for a good to great NHL starter, it's probably the best we can expect this season at any given time.

Specific to this game, there were several reasons we lost. On the season, goaltending is number one and even with this game, we had the second best goalie by a wide margin. Islanders games typically aren't high scoring games.

We deserved a better fate..... Our Special Teams in particular the PK which is imo a coaching issue or a Travis Sanheim issue (it happens to other D as well but mainly Sanheim). He constantly leaves Myers alone who then leaves the off winger alone for a slam dunk goal. I bring this up almost every other game (I wanna punch someone in the head) why don't reporters ask those f*** questions??

Kids mistakes have been killing us all season. Joel 2 major mistakes on goal 2 and Oskar has to watch that forward on the PK if the system is asking the one Dman to press the man with the puck (which I think is stupid play btw)

The PP just stick your best 5 together (Ghost, Jake, G, Couts and JVR) and give them 1:30 of the PP. Again same shit for the season...

G and Konecny were awesome. Patrick had one of his best games but kid still can't finish up close, Sam KO one of the Heavyweights in the league was awesome. Great seeing Hart getting us a point! Hockey gods and refs continue to make this team lose lol no breaks seem to be coming are way. Everything happens for a reason... I hope

Good news is Allison and Foerster continue to be great in LHV

'Stop looking at stats and watch the game or learn the position ! Hart was our best player in this game besides G.

Scratch this man for speaking a truth rarely acknowledged! It's almost like people don't realize hockey is a game of momentum, with ups and downs. You just hope to have more ups. But speaking of damaged.....

All true.... but the key is eliminating large mistakes which has been our #1 issue we give up high % scoring chances most nights because of lazy miscues. We've been better last 4 or 5 games but even tonight the NYI had a number of high quality chances even though we controlled the play

Fun stat.

Giroux is only 8 points off passing Ted Lindsay in scoring.

In 140 less games played.

Their scoring eras are not that "dissimilar".

And Giroux ofc did not play with Gordie Howe on his line.

*I should say... Lindsay was better for sure, Giroux's peak few years were what Lindsay did ~7x in a row. His prime was crazy in terms of consistency. But just goes to show about perception.

I would like for you to point out where I said he had a bad game. If you use this thing called reading comprehension, you'll notice I specifically said I wasn't attacking Hart or saying anything about him as a player. If you combine that reading comprehension with a modicum of critical thinking you might able to realize a larger point that's being made.
