Seriously why does Val suddenly look like a completely different player (other than still not lifting the puck)

Does anyone understand why Hanley was waived early? I understand waiving him once Klingberg is activated from IR and playing, but exposing him to the risk of getting claimed when you clearly need him for at least this game seems like an objective mistake.

I’d imagine to respect the trade freeze. If someone wanted him, he’d have time to move and make plans with a good chunk of time before the holidays get going.

That would be unusually generous. The NHL already allows a period of time for the players to spend the holidays with their families. That's an interesting idea though. Maybe they asked Hanley if he would rather be waiver earlier or later and he preferred earlier.

Christmas roster freeze starts tomorow. They had to do it at the latest today or Klingberg couldn't be activated . There would be no rosterspot for him.

Now Hanley can be just send down when Klingberg is back. Can't be picked up until he plays 10 games or is active on the roster for 30 days again

I’d like to think Nill cares about the players as people enough to give him that courtesy. It does seem like most players seem valued by the organization at every level.
