ISLANDERS NOTES:

• Wahlstrom found the back of the net for the fifth time this season. Through 21 games, the 20-year-old winger has compiled 10 points (5G, 5A).

• Bellows drew back in the lineup for the first time since Feb. 18 and made the most of his opportunity as the 22-year-old winger scored the game-tying and game-winning goal. Bellows skated in Lee's place alongside Mathew Barzal and Jordan Eberle. The rookie forward now has two goals through nine games this season.

• Eberle assisted on both of Bellows' goals. The veteran winger now has 18 points (9G, 9A) through 28 games this season.

• Varlamov made his 20th start of the season and improved his record to 13-4-3. The Islanders netminder earned his second-career assist with the team and the ninth assist of his 13-year NHL career on Wahlstrom's goal. Varlamov has a 2.03 GAA and a .929 SV%.

• The Islanders power play went 0-for-4 against the Devils and has gone 0-for-9 in the past two games against New Jersey's now 30th ranked penalty kill.

• On the flipside, the Islanders' penalty kill was a perfect 1-for-1.

• Trotz confirmed following Saturday's morning skate that he was planning on splitting his netminders for the back-to-back set. If the Islanders head coach sticks with that plan then, Ilya Sorokin is expected to start on Sunday in net. Sorokin last played on Thursday night's 5-3 win over New Jersey where the rookie goalie made 19 saves on 22 shots. Sorokin has won five straight starts.

DEVILS NOTES:

• With the home loss, New Jersey dropped it's 10th-straight game on Prudential Center ice. The team hasn't picked up a win at home since Jan. 24 when they defeated the Islanders 2-0.

• Zacha scored his seventh goal of the season for the Devils. With the goal, the centerman overtook sole place of second in goals behind Miles Wood (8). Through 24 games this season, Zacha has totaled a team high 17 points (7G, 10A). Zacha leads the Devils in scoring with 17 points (7G, 10A) through 24 games.

• Janne Kuokkanen scored his fourth goal of the season for the Devils and his second goal in as many games. The 22-year-old winger now has 10 points (4G, 6A) through 19 games.

• Blackwood made his 14th start of the season while his record dropped 5-8-1. The 24-year-old has a 3.13 GAA and a .900 SV%

I think they took away Varly’s assist on Wallys goal yesterday. :(

It’d be nice to get 2 points today.

Didn’t realize that Zacha was so good that he leads multiple teams in scoring!

I know BT doesn't like to change things up after wins but given this is b2b games in under 24 hours would it be possible we see Aho or Hickey today? I realize sacrilege and no one wants to see our 7th D but I worry Greene will wear down. Also Sorokin in net but if we are going to give someone a break, today is the day. Schedule turns killer after today.

I don't think we'll ever see Hickey in an Isles jersey again, but I'm not opposed to giving Aho a game to give the old man a breather.

Don't think it'll happen though. Trotz probably doesn't let up now and wants to bank points. If we see Greene given "maintenance days', it'll be later in the season with a more clear picture of the playoff situation.

This pretty much confirms its serious

I'm not the best at this and someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but this means he's out at least 24 days right? It might mean making space for a trade, but it could also mean making space to promote people from the taxi squad and stay cap compliant.

Gonna miss the beginning of this one. Making a game time decision if I'll just miss the beginning and join live or watch on delay.

Whatever move we make with the $7M being moved off the cap to LTIR, that $7M has to be cleared off when Lee returns to the active roster.

This move to LTIR makes me believe we won't see Lee until next season.

Right. I think that makes sense. I was just questioning whether the other is a possibility -- I'm just not sure. For example, if we wanted to bring Ladd up (it hurt typing that), we would need to LTIR someone to get the cap space, right?

this is my thoughts as well.
Same here. The injury is not just a boo boo. It will require healing and rehab. To me this sounds like a knee, but just speculation on my part.
Lee could return to the playoffs as the cap is essentially thrown out the door in the postseason.
Yep, that's the best case scenario. But that's a tough spot if he returns there. Imagine being out for months and playing playoff hockey right out of practicing against TB. I think Bobby Orr would find that challenging.

All this will lead to speculation what Lou does before the TDL?
