I know I’ve been very all in on firing Hak, but I watched the game at Primantis Bros (the heartland of Pitt) and it felt soooo bitter sweet watching the flyers beat them in that restaurant around all those fans.

Back to reality. #firehakstol

I tend to agree with you. A big fight can absolutely spark a team.

Of course, saying that anything positive can come from a fight means "you're a dinosaur still living in the past" and "it's not the 70's anymore" by default.

There is in fact a grey area, but I guess in this day and age you're either for or against. No in between.

Several former players and at least 2 current players said how much of a boost the Simmonds fight gave them, yet some of you STILL refuse to acknowledge that fights can have a positive impact to the team.

I really don't understand it.

Some do say that, but that’s not most of the rational takes. It’s a question of overall net impact. I would rather play the percentages and be more likely to not need a jump by simply icing the best hockey players I have.

For me, I won’t pay specifically to see it and it can’t justify your roster spot. If Simmonds was a 4th line PP specialist who wasn’t being jammed so high in the lineup, I’d have no problem at all with the situation.

The same all season, when the goalie makes the stops, they play with an extra jump.

But I'm not anointing Stolarz the savior until he has 10-20 starts under his belt, Pickard had a nice shutout, Mrazek had 3 good games to start his Flyer career, then straight down hill.

Lyon was ahead of Stolarz for an obvious reason, one was coming off a spectacular AHL playoff run, the other off a serious knee injury. Duh.

Agree.

I had to laugh when the Pitt announcer said the fight was between two "heavyweights."

Oleksiak is a heavyweight.

Simmer is a 183 pound middleweight with the heart of a heavyweight.

Bettman has sucked a lot of the emotion out of the game, but there are still moments when a guy will put himself at risk to lift his team. Last night, down a goal early, Simmer took on a guy who can fight and outweighs him by 67 pounds! That was a pretty brave thing to do and I have no doubt that it sparked the whole team to step up.

it's really a shame that this coach will get credit, because the players are saving him. they are playing desprate due to fear, not from anything the coach is doing, and hoping they won't get traded. hakstool is still doing the same stupid ****.

It was 1 game after an epic collapse to an awful team in their previous. If this 1 game saves Hakstol, we are doomed to begin with.

No worries.

Chuck Fletcher is a Harvard graduate. He'll use his keen intellect to survey the situation, fire Hak and ...

hire Mike Yeo. :DD

I’ll start worrying about Hak staying the rest of the season if they go on this road trip undefeated.

Let’s not forget that the 18-19 Pens are a mediocre team with severe goalie issues.

My best guess is that unless the new GM can convince Q to come on board, Hak is here for the rest of the season unless there is a total collapse.

I think whoever the next GM is knows how the game is played with the media. I doubt we are not the only organization who tows the company line with a HC on the hot seat. Last nights game will have little to no bearing on a decision. The big picture matters. This has been a middling team with little signs of improvement under Hakstol since he has been here. 4 playoff wins in 4 years. That is not going to cut it.

Except Gary is the one that changed the playoff formats to promote rivalries...

But in the end we all know that the # of games you play against your division was changed so that every team gets to go to Vegas once a year.

I would much rather play the Western teams twice per season than have to play division teams six times each. Thats 12 games against NJ and Carolina out of 82.

Even though Provy played against Crosby, his corsi% 21.88(by far lowest on the team) is brutal! Only 7 shot attempts when he was on the ice 5v5 (22:15 minutes). Ghost had bad numbers too. They are responsible for both goals against. I'm not too excited about the game.
Push through it. Keep them together

And the Flyers aren't?

Pens still have Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, Guentzel, Hornqvist, Brassard, Pearson, Simon, Rust, Sheahan, Dumoulin, Letang, Johnson, Maata.
Getting a little long in the tooth, but not ancient, no one older than 32.
