I’m not doing that trade, Freddy for Barbashev is a lateral move imo. Sure Barbashev hits a lot and had 60 points last year, but I think that season is gonna be an outlier for him and Freddy is far better defensively. I’m all for adding another player, but im not subtracting any lineup regulars from the roster.
Frederic has his ups / downs...looks good on the 4th line however IMO Frederic has had concussion/injury issues which are concerning and Barbashev is a better fit (if need be) within the top 6 more so than Freddy.

Barbashev has had a more productive career and looks very dangerous out there these days.

I don't believe this trade would go down. I believe (maybe I'm wrong) Freddy is well liked by his teammates. A trade like this may ruin good team chemistry.

The forwards seem pretty straightforward when the team is healthy. The only change I’d make is Hathaway in and Greer out. For the D pairs I don’t think they get Orlov to play on the 3rd pair.

Marchand-Bergeron-Debrusk
Zacha-Krejci-Pastrnak
Hall-Coyle-Frederic
Foligno-Nosek-Hathaway

Orlov-McAvoy
Lindholm-Carlo
Griz/Forbort-Clifton

Man that roster is stacked.

Elliot Friedman on today's 32 Thoughts Podcast, explaining the Gavrikov situation:
"I have absolutely no doubts the reason why Columbus scratched Gavrikov is because they had a deal in place with the Boston Bruins. In their eyes it was more than just we will do something, there was some sort of verbal commitment there."

-Gavrikov getting impatient, wanted a deal to happen soon
- Boston views it as they never had a verbal commitment
- Had conceptual talks with Columbus
- Boston had legitimate talks with Arizona on Chychrun
- Had talks with Chicago on a McCabe/Lafferty deal
- Earlier Thursday, Columbus heard a deal wasn't going to happen
- Columbus and Boston had very different opinions on where they thought the deal was
- GMs around the league thought Gavrikov to Boston was done
I kinda like this, it shows Sweeney will draw a line ang pivot if he has to. They wound up with a better deal from Washington. If you want Bruin assets make the deal when offered, don't go shopping elsewhere.

Agreed, Frederic is just a younger version of Barbashev. You look at Barbashev at 24 vs Frederic and they are very similar.

Perhaps Columbus should have been willing to receive Smith. Bruins found a better trade.

Sounds like Jarmo was trying to do his whole “the dentist” routine and got burned. He opened up this possibility when he made us look elsewhere to dump Smith’s contract, want to get a deal done? Then help us make the deal work by taking salary back.

But don’t go crying to the media when big bad Don Sweeney stuffs you in a locker by finding a better deal that he found while looking to dump Smith’s contract cause you wouldn’t help him.

Would you do Freddy + Reilly for Barbashev? I wouldn't do Freddy straight

I would take draft capital back to if it was freddy vs Barbashev because RFA vs UFA , but if they take Reilly at 100%$$ and retain half on Barbashev? 100% yes absolutely I would do that deal:

Frederic + Reilly for Barbashev @ 50%

They over played their hand. Simple. Same thing is going to happen to Armstrong. Now they take it to the media and Friedman. GM’s know the deal.

I would think we are done with bringing in another roster player. My guess we move a prospect or two to rid Mike R.

I hope little Z can bring back a third rounder

Bruins can sure utilize/have in the lineup someone like Lafferty

Who can skate, lay out some hard hits, can score a little. Solid at the face off dot.

Nosek is a solid 4th liner. Just not confident he has another gear in the playoffs. Especially against "fast" teams like Leafs or Canes. Nosek struggled against Canes speed

I think the defensive pairings is an interesting conversation.

I know Gryz is a lightning rod around here. I like the player a lot, and I think he’s awesome next to McAvoy. That said, if they didn’t bring in Orlov to play 3rd pair, then I think a Gryz-Clifton 3rd pair is troublesome. I just don’t see them running those guys out as a pair in a playoff series - feels like a matchup problem. It’s also odd to have a 3rd pair where neither guy qualifies as “defensive”.

Maybe just put Orlov on 3rd pair with Cliffy?

The Bruins should no longer have any interest in Schenn. Would love to acquire Barbashev but not at the cost of Frederic, Sweeney won't do that.
Its tempting

Freddy is progressing nicely. Barbashev is a proven playoff player

Barb is a better hitter. A little more skilled.

I agree, especially if we play heavy teams. In my opinion Gryz is most likely to be the odd man out.

Bruins inquired about McCabe and Lafferty.

Am I wrong to still want Lafferty? He’d be a nice C option on L4 with more physicality added to the bottom 6. Nosek is close so maybe Hathaway is enough now?

Im probably just being greedy but Lafferty would fit in nicely and further our depth.

Foligno - Lafferty - Hathaway would absolutely grind teams down and be a terror on the forecheck
