Vegas has a lot of things outside the strip... you just have to like boating, desert, and mountains. I don't mind Vegas that much. Wouldn't be a place I'd want to live, but if you like the outdoors, there's a lot going for it 9 months a year.. plus amazing restaurants, every big name act you'd ever want to see, spas, shopping, partying... I get the appeal for many. There's a reason it is growing like it is, not my jam... but this certainly isn't St Louis.
Lol I give you credit, your tirade against St. Louis has been going on for years and there is no end in sight. F**k St. Louis.

Vegas. I mean, the entire city is based upon one principle...separating people from their money. There's a very thin veneer of glitz, but if you stop and actually look around, it can actually be depressing.

I'm talking about the strip here. I have no idea what the suburbs or outlying areas are like. I've only traveled there for conventions and hated them. Much preferred traveling to the east coast or even Cali.
I’ve been to Vegas many times, mostly when I was younger, been outside the strip around the city, there is nothing to do. I know some people say there is a lot more to do in Vegas than the strip, but trust me there isn’t. People who say that are those who want to convince themselves that it’s a good place to live.

The weather sucks too. Desert heat in summer where you have to be under AC all the time, and winters are cold. There isn’t any nature like trees and stuff to keep your house or apartment naturally cool, you have to use the AC 24 7 and pay huge electrical bill.

I’m having a hard time saying anything positive about Vegas. The 24 hour drinking and gambling may have been fun when I was in my 20s, but right now i don’t find anything appealing about that city.

The shows are on point, and so are the clubs. I don't need that much alcohol to enjoy those lol.

Got to see George Carlin there way back in the day.

First few times you visit Vegas, it’s fun. Catch a show, gamble etc.. but it gets old pretty quickly because there is nothing else to do in Vegas.

Personally I like going to the beach. Enjoy going for a walk in a city that has nice architecture, clean streets, maybe outside cafes etc… none of this which Vegas can offer. Also I don’t want to go to Vegas to see fake NY or fake Venice. I rather go to actual NY city or go to Italy.

I honestly prefer deserts to many climates. I'd take it a million times over what the Midwest and Deep South have to offer.
Midwest weather is all over the place lately BUT the water here is clean and plentiful and living here probably will become more desirable as all the deserts and semi-arid deserts keep importing other states water to keep their lawns green and so on, and how long can that really go on?

Also, the only time I've really had fun in Vegas doing Vegas stuff was when we stayed on the old strip and hung out at some funky old casinos, primarily the San Remo. None of this oh look up it's the ceiling sky we're in Italy! nonsense. I got my picture taken with a f***ing orangutan at the Trop. That's living.

The other time I had a lot of fun in Vegas was Matador Records 21st anniversary thing which was bands and fans all staying at The Palms and almost non-stop shows and parties. First night I saw Guitar Wolf at 3am and then went right from that to steak and eggs. I didn't go outside for 2 days other than a 15 minute peek to see the pool scene.

Yeah, you can go to Vegas once in a while and party I guess, but I can’t imagine ever living there. Actually I don’t even want to go spend money in Vegas anymore because I can be smarter and use that money to travel to Europe or other places

Frankly… as long as they don’t revise the water pacts since Colorado and Wyoming will just lose their water

Give me dry and sunshine instead of humid and crazy. But I’m a western mountain folk

Ya'll are underrating the area around Vegas. Sure it is unbearable 7 months a year, but the other 5 months are beautiful desert weather.

Also, this thread should probably be shut down, ain't no reason to keep this one cranking if all we can talk about is weather and how shitty vegas is

I tried to stay interested in hockey after the Avs were eliminated. Even thought the Vegas-FLA matchup sounded interesting. In the end though I lost interest pretty quickly.

Was even interested in what the Vegas scene and parade was like after they won, but yet again, I didn't even look it up.

I think waiting all year for my team to finally get healthy, only to never get there, and just be left thinking what could have been, really made it hard to stay interested.

Hoping for a good off season and a healthier roster next year to look forward to.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating. And it gets everywhere.
^Low-key best post of the thread winner right here.

I don't have a lot of regrets, but not making it a point to catch George live is one of them. I've had so much fun over the years listening to his tapes and then watching his videos and specials. I was lucky enough to catch Robin Williams live in the late 80s, but never had the chance or made it a point to go to a Carlin show. Mad props on having been able to experience that live!

My sister lives not too far away from where you live. She lives in Santa Monica. I had a good time hanging out in Cali and we went down to Las Vegas for a day because I never been there. I have an MGM rewards card so all the MGM hotels are free if you reserve a few days before, so the house covers almost all of the costs while staying at Vegas. I stayed at Bellagio and It was nice, not the best floor or the view but whatever. I went gambling downstairs and somehow while having free drinks at the casino floor I was up 700 bucks in like about an hour playing black jack 25 bucks or 50 bucks a table per hand. I sometimes played 2 hands. The next morning before heading back to Cali we went for a breakfast and it was one of the most delicious eggs and ham that I have ever had. It was like 15 minutes away from the strip.

Vegas pool parties were fun in my early 20s but it’s just such a gauche, tacky city. Past that phase of life now but I preferred going out in other cities, like Miami

I'd much rather hang out at Miami's South Beach than Vegas. Key West, early 80s, was always more my speed but even there it's too crowded now. There are still some nice keys though if you are looking for a quieter beach front experience.

In my 20s, I actually preferred going to east coast cities like Boston up north and Charleston farther down south. Cities that have history. Cities that have museums and things other than just gambling to explore. I doubt I'll end up back in Vegas at this point, but if I do, I think I'll take some of the suggestions offered here and maybe try to spend my off-time getting outside the strip. I just realized it wasn't that far of a drive to the Hoover dam. That's something I probably should've done one of the times I was down there.

Yeah, I was 17 at the time, and begged and pleaded for it. I was like, I will go by myself if y'all doesn't want to.

I've never actually said, I'm going to plan a trip to Vegas, but have been a few times for weddings and other stuff.

Seen Ron White, and a few other big names over the years. Detroit has a pretty good stand up scene. For years that was my New Years thing, less of a crowd, just as much fun.

True, getting there tends to be fairly cheap or used to be. I'd much rather go some place tropical or historic.

Haven't been to Vegas but went to Reno a bit when I was young. Taught me I really don't care for gambling of any sort. Get to Charleston a bit and that is a fun city. Killer restaurant scene, great rooftop bars, and the people are so friendly. Still do Key West and love it but Duval can be a madhouse. My solution to that is to drink heavily and watch the circus.

Oh man, Reno used to be such a scummy great time. It's appropriately San Francisco's Vegas.

It’s very amusing hearing Vegas owner go on a 32 thoughts podcast and actually say his team was cap compliant. Not sure if anyone heard that interview, but that’s really convincing for anyone that’s naive and stupid. How the f*** were you cap compliant you idiot. You had a 90+ million dollar team in the playoffs going against teams that were at most 82 mill team and this guy had the nerve to go on a podcast and say that his team was cap compliant.

Seriously f*** Vegas. Avs need to take that cup away from them next year

Please, don’t give me the CBA bull shit that LTIR is part of the agreement. If a player can play but they keep him out until playoffs, that’s not within the agreement, that’s breaking the rules, but apparently no one gives a shit
I don't remember if it was in 32 thoughts or the Marek show but they talked about how the NHL was watching them closely with the Stone situation to make sure it was legit.

The NHL actually warned all the teams after the Kucherov comeback in Tampa...I know that they warned Montreal the year after when Weber went on LTIR to not try to bring him back for the playoffs.
