For sure context is important. I wondered too if that stretch of 16 games at the end of the season where they were at 93.9% without him was due to the guys on the PK being more comfortable overall, where in November as you alluded to, perhaps they still needed some time to mesh.
Small samples can make things look important without context.

That November run without Forbort was also without McAvoy for a few games at the start and only had two real clonkers - a special teams fest against the Canucks and a game against friggin' Florida.

Trying to derive much meaning out of a couple handfuls of games probably won't get you much.

FYI we're looking at sample sizes that are almost meaningless.

We should at least try looking at both of Forbort's seasons here and also his PK abilities throughout his career.
FWIW they only played 6 games without him last season vs 76 with him. Numbers were 95% without ans 80% with but that's probably more meaningless to compare 76 games to 6.

The year with the Jets he played each game so we can't compare there, and the season before he only played 20 games, split with two teams.

Could keep going back but then we're looking at him 5+ years when he actually looked good with Doughty...clearly a different player than who we got.

We can still look at his overall career effectiveness on the PK, though. Also, we can compare his own numbers to his teammates. Not every PKer is created equal and therefore the team's overall numbers don't reflect the individual player's contributions.

Just because a team's ERA is 3.5 doesn't mean every pitchers is, you know? Some are higher and some are lower.

I don't know if there are advanced stats just yet to account for a lot of other factors that go into such an evaluation, though. Like, did a defenseman play on the PK with Bergeron and Marchand most of the time? Did they face the opponent's #1 unit or #2 PP unit more or less? So many things we can't tell that it feels like you sort of have no clue but to go back to the eye test at some point.

What I do think is most revealing about Forbort is that so much of the argument for him being effective depends on his PK ability. Not a lot of arguments for his 5-on-5 play anymore.

Ah that is fair, I could Query how Carlo did last year for comparison in the games he played vs. Forbort...I'm not sure if that site above is taking the PK% from each game he's played in or if it's actually calculating it using only the times he's on the ice though.

For good reason you won't see many argue about 5 on 5 play. I think 2 seasons in it's clear he's a PK specialist who just tries to survive at 5 on 5, ideally he's not here this year or next, but he really his one of the few PK options we have this season.

Good find.

The real PK ace was Lindholm. The PK was 66.7% without him and 87.7 with him.
I feel like ideally you don't want him to be the ace though, because then he gets injured blocking a shot like this past season and you're completely hooped by that injury effecting his play 5 on 5....let Forbort (or someone else) do the dirty work over our top guys.

I hope you included Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. A cinematic masterpiece.
For families with kids now in their early 20’s….Phineas and Ferb’s 2010 Christmas episode is as good as it gets!

We still watch multiple times each Christmas.
