@DominicT was talking about how Grizz's value may drop do to his actual salary being higher than his cap hit, so I checked on the other Bruins rumored to possibly be on their way out of town and all their salaries for the upcoming season is more than their cap hit.

Matt Grzelcyk's salary is $4,250,000 and his cap hit is $3,687,500
Derek Forbort's salary is $3,500,000 and his cap hit is $3,000,000
Linus Ullmark's salary is $6,000,000 and his cap hit is $5,000,000
Mike Reilly's salary is $4,000,000 and his cap hit is $3,000,000

Back at the TDL we had a "dream team" assembled, or so we thought.
Now, it's feeling like a nightmare.
It's time it seems to cut any/all deadweight and also consider trading
names that I don't want to name, and I'll bet Sweeney doesn't want to name.
If the Bruins aren't going to be relevant for several years, just barely making and missing the playoffs, then it's time to consider everything going forward. The next few days will be like a ride on a condemned roller coaster around here.

Didn't you hear the Bruins traded away the #1 overall for some tweeners. #1 overall of 2010. Which is still more than they still have for trading away the #2 of that same draft.

If your gonna blow it up you need to get in the top 5 in the first round . Draft the best possible and center and start from there.

IMO all this team needs moving forward is a Number one Center and some toughness and grit. I also think Bergys coming back, I just want a 30 or younger top Center on board with or without h

I would think this is common for most players?

I believe its just how their all written up, Id think most of them are probably top heavy, but not sure. I just think in this case its more coincidence than anything else. I believe only Marchand/Coyle salary for the upcoming season is less. So maybe.

This is getting pretty hilarious considering the draft and free agency - much less most of the trades that will happen around the league - haven’t happened yet and we’ve turned into Columbus overnight.
Well a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step backwards as well as forwards grasshopper.

The beauty of Bergeron/Marchand on discounted contracts, that afforded management to bungle the cap with the middle of the roster and still ice a pretty good team for most seasons.

Pastrnak and McAvoy locked up on fair, yet not quite discount rates means we have to actually play smart with all contracts. We literally cannot afford more Backes, Belesky, John Moore, Mike Reilly, Nick Foligno overpays anymore.

Overpay is only half the problem. When those players became junk Sweeney did his signature move and packaged them with a high draft pick in a multiasset deal so it would not be that visible.

Picks used in each deal:

Beleskey 5y/19m
1st 2018
7th 2019

Backes 5y/30m
1st 2020

Moore 5y/13.75m
1st 2022
2nd 2023
2nd 2024

Smith 3y/9.3m
1st 2023
2nd 2025
3rd 2024
5th 2023

Reilly 3y/9m
we shall see if Sweeney packages him with any pick or if he gets bought out

What should be the up coming core in 4x 1st and 3x 2nd picks was flushed down the drain.
Well, after the fiasco at 2015 draft not much of surprise.

Montgomery will lead this team to at least the third round next year. They are the best coached team on the planet. Look what happened all year. Top guys out and we win. It will continue. Let’s just see what the roster looks like in October.

Thing is, they have some great pieces locked up - Pasta, McAvoy, Lindholm, Zacha, etc. will be there in 2028. Swayman will likely be under team control too. But if we can just weather a couple bad years of bottoming out, resetting the cap, restocking the prospect cupboard via trading expiring pieces and drafting well, then they'll be in position to make a big run when they still have Pasta, Mac, Hampus, etc. at the end of their contracts. But if they're going to just kick the can and aim for mediocrity over the next 3-4 years, they're going to waste Pasta and Charlie's primes.
For me the question becomes are McAvoy and Pasta capable of carrying a team and you surround them with good players or are they very good complementary players ???? very few players can lead you through the playoffs
