Petersen is giving me feelings of nostalgia. He's putting himself in rarified air.

Here's the thing with Cal , eveything leading up to last year pointed him to be Quicks future replacement. We all saw it [ including the rest of the league], he was winning, making the saves you need, then bam, the wheels fell off. What the hell happened between then and now? Right now I'd take Martin Jones back.

Dwight King wasn't soft, he just didn't run around doing open-ice hits like some people thought he should because of his size.

That’s not really true. He’s not been good for 2 years. His role expanded in 2019-2020. And he was ok then. Then he bombed last season. And he’s bombing now. We can comfortably say this is his third season being bad now because he’s not gonna change up drastically. He’s done.

What happened is over the last almost 100 games the Kings became good and Cal wasn’t a part of those W’s. It’s fine to be .915 when the team in front of you is poor.

But when you can’t win games despite being handed the starter role on opening night, then that means you can’t even reliably backstop a playoff bubble type of team.

His contract primarily speaks to the lack of confidence from Blake in Quick last year’s offseason. Back then, the hand waivers excused the obvious overpay risk by saying the Kings would have plenty of cap room this past offseason. They didn’t consider that the team would make the playoffs, pay Fiala and need to wait until a week before camp to resign Anderson and Durzi.

i'm really not happy about rehashing dwight king again but i think it's been said here before, the problem with dwight king was not dwight king's play, it was dwight king being played with near-prime kopitar on 1st line minutes
If #11 hadn't drifted further and further away from the action during those then-yearly hibernations, maybe Sutter wouldn't have needed to bring him back into the fray with the grinders.

It always worked, even with Simmonds and Richardson under Terry Murray. A little wake up call never hurt a thing.
