Josh Doan #1 in Rookie NCAA Scoring with 18pts and just for reference here are leading scorers for U20 in NCAA

1 - Kent Johnson 15gp 4g 17a 21pts - 1.40ppg
2 - Owen Power 15gp 3g 18a 21pts - 1.40ppg
3 - Carter Savoie 12gp 11g 8a 19pts - 1.58ppg
4 - Matt Beniers 15gp 10g 8a 18pts - 1.20ppg
5 - Brett Berard 16gp 8g 8a 16pts - 1.00ppg
6 - Josh Doan 14gp 5g 13a 18pts - 1.29ppg
7 - Thomas Bordeleau 15gp 5g 12a 17pts - 1.13ppg
8 - Ryan Tverberg 13gp 9g 7a 16pts - 1.23ppg
9 - Luke Hughes 15gp 7g 8a 15pts - 1.00ppg

I'd say he's in pretty excellent company
It looks even better when you notice that 5 of those players play for Michigan and get to pad each other's stats by playing with tons of future NHL talent.

Well, unfortunately Josh Doan did not get invited to USA WJ Camp, which is perplexing given his production. Bummer for us, as I would have love to see him compete in that tournament.

Will he be eligible next year? Huge miss by team US (although I'm biased) but with the amount of talent up front on that team Doan seemed perfect to round out the bottom six

Probably a bias toward traditional hockey schools. If he had the same numbers at Michigan or Minnesota he would get selected.

Odd they showed this picture while talking about Doan during the Jets broadcast.

Guenther with a Hatty tonight.

And Kaiden Guhle makes his Edmonton debut. Kid is an absolute lethal weapon. I took some guff around here for liking him so much when the Dvorak to MTL rumors kicked up. I said I liked him better than a 11th-12th overall pick. I still do.

Aaaanyway, Guenther has 15g 12a 27pts in his 17gp since being moved to Center. And he’s 49% on FOs. Hmmm…maybe we accidentally found our franchise center and didn’t even know it. Haha. ;)

Would we want Guenther to turn pro with the Yotes after 1 junior season of playing C, or let him simmer? AHL experience would be great for him but just isn't an option.

ideally a year in AHL with a smattering of NHL games to give him a taste.

I'm of the opinion that if a player is ready, then he's ready. The caveat is that I'm talking NHL ready, not merely good enough to make the Coyotes roster. I want him good enough to make any roster.

Guenther moved to C 18 games ago. 15 goals & 14 assists since. While winning 178/358 FOs (50%). He’s up to 4th in WHL scoring (behind Winnipeg’s first line Milne-Savoie-McClennon).

He is second only to Connor Bedard in shots as well.. I only mention this because there was another post talking about shots per game from the last number one draft picks

Shot generation is one of the clear identifiers of top talent...guys who have stats without high shot totals are passengers, not drivers.

Guenther's shot is lethal, and it will translate without a doubt. Having him in the Ovie spot firing one timers will be something to behold, since we've never had that.

Once again, the Coyotes broadcast using this picture of Josh Doan in a team USA jersey last night. Is this from a previous team he was on or are they hoping to influence some random team USA decision makers who decided to watch their broadcast lol. Ahh, it appears it's from USA Hockey's 2021 World Junior Summer Showcase.

I just hope we develop whoever we pick. The development of Hayton, Strome and Crouse in particular was brutal. Like we tried our hardest to ruin them.
We were extremely patient with Strome. It was silly that he barely was allowed to play with our top wingers but that alone isn't to blame for any problems. His lack of development is entirely on him.
