Personally not a fan of this draft.

Mailloux is toolsy, but also a complete tool. Hate the pick.

Roy was good value, only because of how late it was.

Possible upside picks: Kidney, Kostenko. I see Kostenko as a bust candidate.

Safe but unsexy pick: Kapanen. Bottom 6 potential. Late 2nd, I'm ok with it.

No thoughts either way on the other late rounders. Least interesting Habs draft for me in a while.

I hear you. But instead of talking about helping the boy, they should talk about helping the victims, or preventing this sort or things.

Draft him, ok, but donate money to victim resources for every year he's in the organization, or create a foundation dedicated to sexual education of teens or I don't know what, but do something to help the victims or to prevent it from happening in the future. Don't just help the individual. It sends the wrong message out there.
The individual is the one who needs the most help. If he didn’t need help no one in this situation would. I agree to help victims but in this case it’s probably just prolonging the victims traumas by making a huge thing of it.

...No one pays to see a parent-children relationship.

So if you have to pay to see someone that person is in redeemable, but if it is your own issue, then they are redeemable? Sounds biased … for me it takes a village to raise a child well. Habs and Bergie are now part of Logan’s village. Good luck.

... You should really work on your analogies or give up completely.

Huge balls for the 1st round selection.
No bad WTF picks like Ruscheinski.
Mostly players with high upside potential.
A few talented Q guys for the French media.

An analogy is a comparison of two different class of things that have some like features in common. Since I am talking about two children, then it is not an analogy but a comparable. I do think that ppl forgive their children for things they wouldn’t forgive other children. That doesn’t need an analogy because it is a simple concept to grasp. No one would say and apple is like an apple. But one might say that you only like the green apples because they remind you of home … to demonstrate bias.

Anyway, I am shocking at how many grownups on this board want to cancel a 17 year old’s whole life because of something dumb they did, and for which they attempted to make amends even before it garnered media attention. They don’t even want to give that person an opportunity to learn from their ethical blind points, even though he could end up being a great human being who ends up doing a lot of positive for society.

It is almost as though all these people are blind with rage. Luckily, our legal system is blind to bias.

Terrible first day overshadows what was otherwise a good draft.

I've already said what I think of Mailloux. The player isn't worth this and it wouldn't surprise me if it impacts his career even if we want to be cynical.

The rest of the draft I thought we did well in a bad place. Good mix of safe tools and upside, like that we focused on Europe and the Q and not US high schools.

I see no homeruns....including Mailloux. But I see some NHL potential in there. And players fun to follow. I would ahve probably go different for almost every pick...but I don't think there's any bad picks out there.

  • Mailloux...well I would have went Stankhoven (mostly becasue I didn't scout Mailloux at all due to....but I loved Stankoven a whole lot..)
  • Kidney/Kapanen: I think there are good picks. Not as spectacular as Tuch/Mysak but good nonetheless. While I was not a Pastujov fan, would have probably find a way to pick him there. But safe and sound picks.
  • Kostenko: Well a good pick with serious abilities. Would most definately not have went there...would have gone Whynot/Hreschuk/Lennox/Nadeau route for sure. But chances are he makes me look bad there. Can't wait to see the development.
  • Roy: Good pick. Type of guy with all the tools but no toolbox. Often, they don't find it. Sometimes, they do. Hopefully he's in the latter category. I could have went a different route like Liukas or McDonald.
  • Trudeau: Like the pick. But maybe not the highest of ceiling. At worst, a serviceable AHL'er à la Ellis/Dietz. But maybe going for Red Savage would have been a nicer story.
  • Sobolev: A true WTF pick. Would have MOST DEFINATELY go Justin Robidas there. Or Gerasimyuk. Or Voit. Don't expect anything.
  • Simoneau: Well for a true QMJHL fan...I'm too emotional to have a legit opinion on that. The guy deserved it. That's all. At worst, a great AHL'er for a couple of years till he goes to Europe. But don't count him out for the NHL. Just yet. I will say that maybe...I would have went Rysavy there and pick Simoneau in the 7th. Or Bardakhov.
  • Vrbetic: Like the pick. It really could go either way with him not playing. A huge steal...or huge miss. But I love that we go with goalies once ina while. Another guy I would have gone with is Huuhtanen.

So in essence, ON A HOCKEY STANDPOINT, I think that every pick made sense. Except maybe Mailloux where i had Stankhoven MUCH higher. And surely except Sobolev. Though for Sobolev, the great news is that we will be able to see him up close in the OHL. So not a huge draft. Not a bad one either. Might have went different ways, but only 1 WTF pick....A Timmins special. No stars, but chances for NHL'ers.

I guess the BIG return could come from Mailloux. All eyes on him now....literally.

Some scouts had Mailloux just out of their top 10. Also, he may have slid in some scouts’ eyes because of what happened. From what I see, it looks like we got a top D prospect late in the 1st because he did something dumb and he was like kryptonite to some teams/scouts.

Link to some scouts having him outside the top 10?

Do whatever you want. If the patriots KNEW about Hernandez murdering people in cold blood then I wouldn't support them either. I don't get your comparison.

Let's just draft morally repugnant punks even though they're not even close to the BPA because the logo is more important than morality. I'm not saying the kid is that equivalent either but what he did shows a moral weakness, something that is innate and something I don't want my daughter supporting. Do whatever you want with your family
You are free to do whatever you want as well. No judgment on my end for sure.

In my opinion you are only looking at it from one angle. Instead of thinking about your daughters, imagine that your son is Logan Mailloux. He’s gone overseas as a 17 year old, trying to fit in with a bunch of older men, and makes a really, really bad decision. Is it fair to label my son as “morally repugnant” based on this single act? I can’t control the opinions or thoughts of others and you’ll never get everyone to like you but I would hope a large portion of the fan base of the team that just drafted him would not be calling him a douche bag, POS, morally repugnant etc because of one really bad decision.

Maybe this kid is a really bad seed and he’s frequently done stuff like this. I truly don’t know. But I prefer to believe most people are good rather than believing the worst in people. I also believe in forgiveness. Just how I was raised.

I feel terrible for the girl, I really do. But just like I really don’t want this to ruin her life, I would prefer this not to ruin Logan’s life as well.

Good post! I agree with this thought process as well.

One thing....if our commn theme is average skating for our draft...you have to hope that this management will hire a skating specialist and make the kids work with him or her right? Let's hope we'll see and hear about that.

Are they all going to make it, probably not. But, I think we may have 1-3 NHL players in this draft.

I like your optimism, even if I don’t share it.

50% of our draft classes from 2008-2017 did not yield a single player who has played 100 games in the NHL. So we’re at even odds that we never need to think about any of these kids again.

As Price said — “for me, personally.. it’s kind of irrelevant until I see someone in the line-up, you know?” Or to edit Marx a bit “Prospects are the opiate of the masses.”
