''Lentement mais sûrement, les pourparlers ont pris de la force. À un certain point, les deux parties ont senti qu’un terrain d’entente pouvait être trouvé. Ce qui nous amène à ce potentiel contrat de 15 ans qui devrait être ratifié au plus tard au début de l’automne. Cinq ans ferme, suivi de deux autres termes de cinq renouvelables selon le désir de MacDonald.''

In Steve Turcotte's article, he says the deal could potentially be a 15 year deal. 5 years to start and then renewable for 5 years twice more.

This is great news for the organization. Having a proper ECHL affiliation and everything being close by should be a big plus for prospect development . It's a good thing for the town as well, I still find it kinda weird that the council wasn't all over it from day one.

The council was. The mayor wasn't.

Or to be fair to him, at one point, he got conflicting reports from the Habs organization from two different people who work in two completely different departments. One is in hockey ops and the other isn't. So it's possible he was confused.

Lamarche (Mayor): “This team will be the only ECHL team in the Quebec market. It'll give Quebec prospects a second opportunity to prove themselves. It’s a good product, it'll be a local product. I'm one of the biggest fans of the ECHL, and I'm also one of the biggest fans of Trois-Rivières.”

In an interview yesterday evening on 91.9 Sports FM, Mark Weightman said that they have spoken with other NHL teams that have shown interest in affiliating themselves with the team in TR. They do confirm the Habs is among them.

They're obviously not going to say it because nothing is official. And I believe them when they've spoken with other NHL teams. But they're not fooling anyone. We know who they will be affiliated with. There is only one NHL team that can be affiliated in Trois-Rivières and make it a success there.

It's the old pro wrestling rule, you always work the crowd, no matter how premeditated the result is in the end :naughty:

So if and when the Habs get this ECHL affiliation, that’s not until 21/22 season? Which means there’ll still be issues this season, especially with the goaltending situation.

Yes. There is still one more season of no affiliation so they will potentially send players to different teams, a number of them to Maine.

But it wasn't the ECHL group's fault, though. They were ready to get the team going for this coming seas. But the mayor was delaying the process because he was never warm to the idea of having an ECHL team. His desire was a QMJHL team and the University team sharing the arena. However, it was made clear to him by the Q and their commissioner that there were no plans of expansion or relocation, so there was no way to bring a Major Junior team to TR.

Because of all of the delays, the deadline to submit an expansion to the ECHL for the 2020-21 season passed. So if there was to be an agreement between the city and the ECHL group, it would be for the 2021-22 season.

I wonder if that changes because of Covid? Who knows when the ECHL is even going to start?
