So I decided to watch the highlights from all the Leafs/Jackets games to see if I could pick up what the hell is wrong with Toronto. I know highlights don't paint the whole picture, but there's a couple things that I picked up that are major issues:
- They have minimal to no net front presence. The most they get outside of drive-byes is the Clifford line. The goalie can see everything that is fired at him. Of course they had problems scoring. 2 of the 3 goals they had in their Game 4 comeback had a guy planted right in front. Do that more often maybe?
- They're coverage while defending the rush is hilariously bad. The middle of the ice is always wide open because so many times the back-checker decides to rush after the puck carrier who is already covered.
- Their defense (forwards included) watch the puck while defending way too often. Seems to be very little awareness of who's where in their zone.
- I don't know if it's just their demeanor, but their top guys play like they know they're good and pucks will just go in for them at will. Lots of times it looks like their playing in a scrimmage.
As a side node, HOLY f***, Tampa has 80 shots?
