The whole LAK telling Byfield that they don't think they'll be drafting that high doesn't make much sense. It sounds like a polite way to tell a player that they aren't being considered.

It's not like LAK jumped from 12 to 2. They were 4th, with a downside of 6th.

By that logic, they wouldn't have interviewed Stutzle either, because the odds of him being available at 6 are pretty low.

Either they are trying to play 4D chess with a huge smoke screen (which teams don't really do as much in the NHL, more of an NFL thing). Or, they are not that interested in Byfield.

If it is true Detroit likes Perfetti at 4, purely from a position standpoint, us walking away with a big C and a RD (Drysdale) would be really good. There is no guarantee each player hits their ceiling, but it would shape up into a core of Chabot, Tkachuk Byfield, Drysdale, and then on that second tier guys like Norris, White, Batherson, and Brannstrom.

Would literally backflip for this. Stützle and Rossi instantly go down the middle 1/2 with Norris 3. Could almost see the team being competitive by the end of next season.

Trade for Sergachev and you have two top puck moving LD, and a very fast, skilled center core. Brand new team identity.

That’s a slick draft. If we have anything close to this I think we’re going to be good for a long time (in a few years).

So do we draft overager Egor Sokolov? I know we haven't drafted any Russians, but seeing he has been in the Q for the last 2 years, and we have gotten glimpses of him seeing that he's on the same team as Kevin Mendolorian, maybe one of our 3rd round picks?
The Sens do seem to like over age prospects so there is a good chance that they consider drafting him. He is also a big body with skill that plays the kind of style they like and he seems like a good character guy. He has been stuck in Canada during Covid 19 and there was an article that he spent his free time picking up groceries and dropping them off on the front steps of people in his neighborhood so that certainly reflects postively on him.

That’s an insane draft. Grans 49th is big ass steal. And Shakir. Pretty awesome selections.

I find it hard to believe that so many think that LA will pass on Byfield, I don't see it myself. In fact, I don't think it will come down to Byfield or Stutzle for LA, but Byfield or Drysdale & I think they will take the big centre.
Stutzle is better than Byfield now with potential for 100pt seasons. Byfield has a longer ways to go so a lot more risk with him imo. I’d pick Stutzle at 2.

100 pt season ... when exactly can we expect Stutzle to have a 100 pt season? Wishful thinking IMO.

I'd say both have potential for 100 point seasons. There is huge upside to both players. Byfield may not be as polished but his upside is higher, IMO.

I can't decide which one I'd prefer. Most days I'd go with Byfield but I'm thrilled that we get one of them.

Don’t think there are any 100 point guys in the draft, that’s top 3-5 NHL scorers for the most part. Don’t see that in anyone from the draft.
I see the potential for 5 or 6 players but reality is that we may see one of the top 3 in that range at some point.

How exactly does the NYI pick lottery protection work?

According to capfriendly it becomes their 2021 1st if they win the lottery this year. So would that 2021 pick still be lottery protected?

No. But if they win the lottery and improve a little they are likely a playoff team.

This is a stretch.
I don’t see that byfield has a longer ways to go. If you think stutzle can be a 100 pt player then he has a looooong ways to go too

so we're making a bet? ;)
No need to make a bet on it, I'm indifferent should it happen.

Only 9 players have done that over the past decade, and only 15 times total, It's not a common thing, but all the better for us should this draft provide one, hopefully for us. Only 23 guys have done it since 2000.
