Wonder where Newton ends up at this point. He could wait until pre season in case a starting QB suffers a long term injury but seems like theres been little to no interest so far.

Some are saying this isnt true, but if he actually did turn this down.....

Structure is what it comes down to.

remember that Amari Cooper signed for $100 mill over 5 years so average of $20 mill. Only $40 mill is in guaranteed. He could get cut after 2 years depending on the structure of any signing bonuses and such.

Average cash probably is not the issue. Might be structure of year 3. Would Dak carry enough of a cap burden that it doesn’t make financial sense to cut him after 2 years. Probably how he sees things.

If this were to happen... wow!

I doubt that however well he preforms this upcoming will change any team's mind about the term of a guaranteed contract that he gets next off-season. He played 4 years of his rookie contract, had his 5th year option picked up and then got franchised tagged. This upcoming season is number 7 for him. He's a very young man, having come out of SC as a True Junior. Only like 27. But, even the best players get a new deal coming out of their rookie contract after year 4, and they typically, if they are Elite, get 3 years of the second contract as guaranteed money, which takes them through to year 7. Then, whether they continue on with the club after that is based solely on their performance. Clowney is about to enter that age range.

So, I doubt even with a 14 Sack and double digit TLF, and any other stat he can put up that another team in 2021 is handing him $60 million in guaranteed money until he is 30 years old. He is has that Microfracture injury, which is likely one of the main reasons teams are not clamouring to give him big guaranteed money.
