Both NSH and CAR had roster space, I think. But I do believe NJD and SJS (EDIT: may have been wrong, they apparently had space as per below!) were at roster limits, but they alternatively could send down a waiver exempt player.

Not necessarily. The Sharks had an open spot so they didn’t need to for Balcers.

We already had Kinkaid and he imploded spectacularly when relied upon as "the guy" the last season he was with the Devils and there was some bridges burned by his comments/family members comments prior to his ultimate trade to Columbus that season. No chance he was coming back in my opinion.

I believe if you don't have an open spot, there's a grace period and the team is able to waive a player today.

I wouldn't be shocked if Ned wasn't claimed for the same reasons that Kylington wasn't. Canes are betting that the one-way contract makes him a less-than-appealing target as a #3 goalie. The FO claimed Forsberg as added insurance, but if Ned clears, they will probably let the Oilers have Forsberg back.

If the Canes thought that Ned would be a for-sure clear, they wouldn't have claimed Forsberg, though. I still think that you're right, however. My bet is that Forsberg goes back on waivers after tomorrow and the Oilers have him back.
