Massachusetts scored the first four goals of the game, then hold off a furious Northeastern rally, for a 5-3 win and a sweep of the weekend series.
Carson Gicewicz, a transfer from St. Lawrence, scored in his fifth straight game, and eighth goal overall, to lead the way. The Minutemen held a 37-19 shot advantage. ...
"We’re scoring goals, we’re scoring more than I expected this year, but we’ve got a bad issue of letting up goals in the third period when we have a lead, so that’s something that we need to attend to," (UMass coach Greg) Carvel said. "I thought our special teams were strong this weekend. Not happy with the number of penalties we’re taking, but if we can take care of that, I think that makes us a really tough team to beat.”
UMass has won six in a row, and at 8-3-1, has played the most games of any team in the country so far, even with Arizona State and Denver. ...
