Coleman has 30 points for 1.8m, that's excellent production. Problem is his cost will be almost triple that next year. He's producing as much as Killorn and Gourde and higher than Johnson and Cirelli. As a UFA he can easily get 3.5-4.5m even with a flat cap. Not even knocking him, I think he needs to take the biggest deal he can get this year for his own benefit.

I wouldn't be shocked if we traded Palat and re-signed Coleman for about $4m. Net savings of $1.3m, plus likely some positive assets for Palat.

Definitely wouldn't do that, Palat is way more productive, better in the playoffs and has less term. I wouldn't want Coleman here on a 3-4 year contract. Best option for cap flexibility is to let Coleman walk this year and let Palat walk next year.

If Palat has another postseason like the last, I'm not opposed to resigning him though. Crazy how time flies, these guys we've developed and had with us are 30 or about to be 30.

He has 63 points in his last 78 games, that's great value for his price, if he keeps it up re-signing for around 5m~ is still good but it's more about term for him. He'll be 31 when he's up for extension.

I wouldn't be opposed to 3 years but I guess anything then revolves around who else is performing/underperforming.

I like to give Killorn shit but he's been a 40 point guy all the way and good in the postseason. We haven't had to worry about a LW for a few years now cause of that.

If Heddy can go I’d reduce his minutes in the playoffs. But that’s only if McDonagh is ok, lol. Give Serge 24+

Might not work but need to recalibrate

This is the issue, we don't know how hurt McDonagh is. If he's actually okay and not nursing something like Hedman than we can give McDonagh higher minutes, Serg higher minutes and basically cap Hedman at 18-20

Cirelli has been horrible the past few months yet he's locked in everyone's playoff lineup. His past playoff performances haven't been that great either to suggest he'll turn it on when they start.
Yeah well part of coaching is managing players. Bench Cirelli is a bad move, even tho its warrented

How? If the player is playing like trash why not bench him to either send him a message or give him rest he might need? It shows a bad example when you can be garbage half the season and not get benched but when you have a few bad games you get sent to Syracuse, Foote and Barre-Boulet this year, Joseph, Stephens and Volkov in the past. Or even get scratched like all those guys have this year as well as the likes of Schenn.

I know that, historically, cirelli was a selke candidate type player but his defense against Florida last night was bench worthy.

I missed the hit. How many games we losing Maroon for?

Wasn't for a hit. Was for after Maroon and Montour were separated by refs after their scrum. Maroon broke away from the ref holding him and went after Montour (who was being escorted away by a ref) and punched him in the head.

Some Cats got supplemental disciple as well for that evening's festivities.

Yep and here’s the incident that led to it which Montour is being fined for

So how we feeling about Florida round 1 with an injured Hedman, not 100% Kuch and Stamkos and everyone else playing tired?

Pretty sure Monteur also called him “Fat Pat”. Go look up the replay it’s actually hilarious!

Yup. I do believe that was what Montour said. Think some of the Cats might have been just a wee bit motivated by Maroon's pre-game chirping. ;)

Not really a chirp. I saw some panther fans were upset at it yesterday and I honestly had no idea what it was about. What locker room isn’t talking about setting a tone before their playoff games?

Not going to see many confident about it but we will have to wait and see. I think we can win with Vasi at his best and our guys are motivated. We don't know how much we can depend on them so we will have to find a way to win.

Think it was probably the implication that the "soft" Panthers would be heading into the playoffs 'scared' of the Big Bad Lightning after the last two regular season games. Didn't age well.

Of course every locker room talks about setting a tone before playoffs but remember that last year was the first time in a LONG time that the Cats fans even had a chance to take part in the traditional playoff smack talk. Plus, their team has been the butt of jokes a very long time so I can understand their touchiness now that they finally have an excellent team. Remember the years and years (and years!) of our beloved Bolts being a cellar-dwelling, horrid, not very good, joke of a team? I do. Wasn't fun. :(

If that’s the case I don’t think the panthers really shed that soft appearance after last night.

Maybe it’s just me but I find it funny to trash talk the guy that has as many cups as they do playoff appearances in the salary cap era (not counting last years free and quick trip).

Yeah, but he started it! ;)

Typical cocky young upstart yapping at the grizzled vet. Tale as old as time.

Previous Cats teams wouldn't have even tried to match the physicality brought by the Bolts in the last game. So the Cats fans are finally enjoying a team that doesn't just give up and cower in a corner. Well, except for Yandle...:sarcasm:

Only reason Maroon is having a hearing, will be suspended 1 game, is to cool the tensions next game. They don't want a carryover from last night right before the teams meet in the playoffs where it'll get even chippier and the whistles are less. We still got Schenn if something does go south but they don't want Maroon setting the wrong tone for what the playoff series will be like. I don't mind giving him a night rest and getting Stephens and Barre-Boulet another chance, we may need them one more time in the playoffs.
