Honestly, you have to wonder for Toronto about them not keep Lou Lam around til he was able to sign their young kids coming out of elc. Lou is historically known to be a tough negotiator on young players.
Sign Tavares for $11 mill and your kids think that’s the bar to aim for in their contracts.

tavares signing blew up their future.

Was a luxury add. Kind of like the Julio Jones rumours out of Seattle when they have Metcalf and Lockett. Don’t need another high end guy at WR. Other areas of the team like OL, CB , DL need the help.
If that $11 mill was spent of Hedman it would have made sense but not for Tavares. But at the same time that’s also on the though that Kadri would t get suspended in the playoffs which he has in 3/4 seasons.

Makes it all the more sweeter that they don’t even have a first round pick to look forward to in July.

Yeah, those Jones rumours, while sexy, are very worrisome. There is only so much ball to go around and you need to protect your QB so he can actually throw the ball. And while their D looked good down the stretch, it was historically bad early in the season.

On one hand, the Leafs are Tottenham. They are losers who will always lose and losing is part of their culture. f*** them and their shit fans and shit media. Watching SN virtually in tears over this result is hilarious.

On the other hand, lines are razor thin in small sample sizes in the playoffs. Toronto was 3-2-2 in regulation in this series and if they get a single bounce in either OT game they’re through. On one hand it will be hilarious if they blow it up because of this but on the other hand it will be kinda sad for intelligent thought and good management in this sport. Seeing Benning supporters act like this makes their philosophy superior to what Toronto has been doing is just sad.

I am generally not a believer in things like "clutch" or "choke" and think that gets thrown around way too much... but the leafs, like the knights, are a bunch of mental midgets. And I love it.

I hope they make a bunch of reactionary moves like firing Dubas because that's the one way to end their window. Otherwise they're still contenders again next year.

I really hope the leafs go backwards chasing and overpaying grit like we did post 2011.

There's enough other progressive organizations to look at in the league, the Leafs not winning is well worth the trade-off.

Tampa finally winning a cup should do a lot for organizational philosophy in the league.

Obviously having 3 players over 10 million is a problem, if one gets hurt. They're going to have major issues if the cap stays flat for the length of Matthews contract. They probably should of signed Corey Perry instead of Wayne Simmonds. Also probably traded for Hall instead of Foligno.

Except maybe here where we continue to employ the worst GM in franchise history and allow him to do and stay stuff on behalf of the team.

And Buffalo.

They needed better people like Lou Lam at the helm when it came to contract negotiations with their big 3. Lou is historically very tough on RFA players. Hard to say whether he would have or would not have pursued Tavares as a UFA if he was still the Toronto GM in 2018.
