Stop, stop. they're already dead.

A lot of this hangs on Reid-Foley's inability to eat any innings in this game. It's putting a lot of burden on the pen.

1) "Kevin Pillar's hittin' over .400!" Nerp. he's hitting .396 for August, but that's not even 50 PAs. Over the last month (dating back to July 17) he's hitting .282

2) "He's having a career year". Highly debatable. I guess if you want to count power #s, sure. But this is one of his career worst years for average, obp, walk rate, wrc+. If you filter out his awful Blue Jays start to the season it moves up to middle of the pack, but still not close enough to the top end to being a "career year" except by HRs

Pillar is pretty clearly having a career year offensively with the Giants. Slugging way above his 2nd best mark, highest OPS, highest OPS+, will set career highs in extra-base hits and total bases. Walks are down and that's about it.

It won't be a career year all-around because, although he's still playing a solid CF, it's not at the elite level of his 2015-16 seasons.

I'm not sure why everyone here is in such a hurry to trash him. Guy was a fine - albeit flawed - player as a Jay and is doing well in SF. And the trade with SF is looking very poor right now.

Why? (No sarcasm)

Because he was on the Jays and they were building a good young core of players that could've potentially done something and he forced his way out of town by telling the Jays he wouldn't sign a contract extension and demanded that they trade him to a team in California (and he was subsequently traded to the Dodgers in a crap deal for Raul Mondesi and Pedro Borbon. The biggest thing to come out of this was that Mondesi was, by many accounts, quite a tool and ended up shouldering a lot of the blame for talented shortstop Felipe Lopez flaming out because Mondesi would constantly take him out to party all hours of the night and generally teach him the wrong way to be a pro)

Dodgers should have traded for Giles.

If Giles finishes the season healthy and effective, a believe a lot of teams will be kicking themselves for not upping their offers. Giles has been good and those 2 playoff years would have been very valuable.
