Pete Rose has a valid point for once

Think Pete Rose has something to say about baseball jumping in bed with gamblers? You bet he does

"I guess what it comes down to is baseball is now in bed with the same people who got me kicked out of the game," Rose said. "They can say what they want but this is all about money. You're telling me the managers have to submit their lineups to the league office so the casino can set the lines on the games? What happens if right before game time your starting pitcher has a cramp and has to be scratched? Is the manager gonna get blamed for that ... for screwing up the line?"

Regardless of how MLB chooses to spin this — as a practical move on their part, brought about by a Supreme Court decision that was out of their control — Rose would be justified in saying they are hypocrites for cashing in on gambling while still keeping him out of the game and ineligible for the Hall of Fame because he bet on baseball. Now everyone can be betting on baseball and you can forget about those "No Betting" signs that used to adorn every ballpark

First off, let me just say that I think Pete Rose should absolutely be in the Hall of Fame.

But I also think that he’s a fool for trying to tie a changing of the times (which, yes, ultimately is about money) to his tarnished reputation for betting on games while he was a manager, including the ones in which he was the acting manager. Even if it can be argued it is within the thresholds of legality, it was egregiously unprofessional. If the league hadn’t come down hard, there would have been huge issues.

Some interesting rule changes got passed

Rosters expand from 25 to 26. The September call-ups are over though for the most part, rosters after September 1st (and apparently through the playoffs if I'm reading right) have been lowered from 40 to 28.

Pitchers have to face three batters before exiting. I'm not a fan of that one because I think it changes the strategy of the game. I wonder if that was prompted by Joe Maddon switching pitchers 5 times an inning or if it was what the Brewers did in starting Wade Miley for one batter in the playoffs to trick Roberts into putting out a right-handed lineup.

Or both. I remember feeling irritated and annoyed as a fan watching with both of those things and I don't follow either team.

And right on cue Maddon is complaining about it.

Keep the rule just because it chaffes his ass.

Hell baby
I remember being 12 and my friends dad taking us to sit in the seats when they first went up

We lost to the orioles. Tony Batista hit a grand slam. Awesome experience though

What's everyones realistic expectation for Pedroia this season?

Over/under 100 games?

Under but I think he’ll be effective when he does play. Without injury I think 100 games would be a good total for him. They’re gonna be very cautious with him. Lots of rest. That knees never gonna be 100%

Fortunately they have Brock Holt as insurance So they can be as cautious as they want. Tzu Wei Lin could probably play an effective 2B as well
