I’d be happy with any of those 7 + krebs or Boldy at 8To me the most interesting scenario would be if the following happens:
1. Hughes
2. Kakko
3. Byram
4. Dach
5. Cozens
6. Turcotte
7. Zegras
If any of those 7 are available it's a no brainer to me(although I'd be a little hesitant with Cozens), but after that I think there's 5/6 names you could make an argument for at 8.
Run to the podium and take the BPA, Podkolzin, no questions asked. To me the most interesting scenario would be if the following happens:

Yup, there’s no reason not to take him at that point.Run to the podium and take the BPA, Podkolzin, no questions asked.
I mean Maksimov and Samorukov are probably 2 of our more important prospects right now, not like he would be alone.I feel more comfortable about how Holland would handle European prospects in comparison to how we have handled them in the past but I'm still not convinced Podkolzin would be the right pick for us. Teams who have the most success with Russian players usually have a handful of them. Detroit in the 90's/early 2000's and lately Washington, Tampa and NY Rangers. I think there's something to be said about picking the right player for our core, not just the outright BPA.

I mean the eye test of like...every scouting agency supports a top 10 pick.He wouldn't be alone, but I don't think Pod is the best player available. His stats, the eye test, all do not support a top-10 pick.

Got any links? The lowest I have seen him from a scouting agency is 5Not anymore. He's ranked quite a bit lower now after the u18s.
And scouts have gotten things wrong before.
I have Dach, Turcotte, Zegras, Krebs, Boldy, Caufield, and Newhook all ahead of him.

That's still an average ranking of 82019 NHL Draft Rankings
This page has a bunch of writer's rankings. Podkolzin is ranked 12th, 4th, 7th, 6th, 17th, 4th in May.
Watching some Newhook videos cause y'all like him so much. I definitely see the skill but I think he has a very major hurdles to overcome.
1. He will not find the time and space he does in the NHL.
2. Playing in **** leagues forever he hasn't really had to play thru adversity, that will be something huge for him to learn.
3. His u18 performance was good but most of it was against crap teams, which is fine. He clearly does well when he is clearly more skilled than the opponent but when the skill level is close his game isn't as strong.
4. He reminds me of a Matt Barzal but not even in the same world of ability.
Edit: Based on the link Llama posted too, only one scouting group had Newhook top 10 and it's a group that has Pelletier, Broberg and Kaliyev all in the top of ahead of him too...which is....interesting.
I really like him. If none of Dach, Turcotte, or Zegras are there I'd be very happy with the pick.Curious as to what people think about Boldy.
Actually when you have guys like McDavid and Draisaitl you need guys that are ready 3-5 years down the road on ELCs to remain competitive. Hopefully this is our last high pick. Unless we are getting a very good player for it, you shouldn't trade it. Especially just to get rid of LucicTrade the pick.
Be the smart team for once. What are the odds of an 8th overall pick panning out, like 32%, but you can trade that pick for an instant NHL player. And we're not talking some dumbass Griffin Reinhart trade in the first round.
You trade that pick in a package for something to shake loose on Lucic, plus a guy that can play today. Then you have 100% odds on an NHL player. Yeah dude at #8 might be someone someday, but we can't worry about that now. We aren't in that position to worry about 5 years down the road with McDavid and Draisaitl burning prime years.
