This phrasing really bugs me with American ball. There is no "neutral zone". Either you are on your side of the ball or the other side of the ball. How can their be in a neutral zone?

In Canadian ball there is a 1 yard buffer, but they don't even call it a neutral zone lol.

I'm going off of what Wikipedia says which appears to be referencing an official Gridiron Football rule publication. I'm not seeing either team observe any buffers and I just wondered if there was stiff a requirement to keep away from that buffer zone of the line of scrimmage or not.
