It isn’t about market size. There are independent beat writers (Portzline in Columbus is a great example) in small markets that do a great job reporting on their team. It is about working hard and developing relationships and sources within the organization.

Abby and Chris don’t do that. They wait for the press release from the team. Corey at the Athletic does a better job on the analysis and deep dive stuff. But even a lot that is fluff that most fans probably don’t care about.

Foote and Kuokkanen are really nice pieces for the future and we have plenty of ammo to make a move at the draft, or simply select three 1st round talents in a very good draft.

I’m happy we didn’t resort to trading Palmieri to Boston for the scraps they were offering. I’m glad they lost out on picking up a scoring forward, hopefully they get knocked out earlier this year.

yeah no need to trade Palms if teams aren't ponying up. i had no problem trading him but not for like a Heinen+Zboril+2nd package or whatever that was speculated. if healthy and the Devils are selling next year they should be able to get a first for him. Seravalli said that he thinks that Palms will be moved but the question was if he was going to be traded at the deadline or in the summer (where there will be more teams interested) so this still might be his last season as a Devil, but then again Fitz might not be here in the summer so that can change.

Well obviously not when injured. But had Vatanen been healthy and played all this time as good as he did, I think easily. Worst UFA's have gotten a late 1st than Vatanen, who was our best dman at 40pts pace. It's easy to be all captain hindsight now, but majority of posters on this board were expecting a late 1st before he got injured.

not a bad deadline for us. I can breath a sigh of relief now that Palms and Severson are still Devils. I don't want to completely gut the team by losing one of those two. Severson especially. He's been awesome under Nas imo. Not to forget that both players are on extremely friendly deals.

It is about them working he’s and doing the job that that have already been hired to do.

There was better reporting by Chere before we ever won a cup than what we see now. And I was never a fan of Chere.

Saying 'not many people like hockey' in an area with a population of 23 million - regardless of how many teams there are - is absurd. I think there's plenty of interest to at least have at least one decent beat reporter. There was enough before the Devils were ever relevent.

Pretty underwhelming deals today, Simmonds going to Buffalo is just bizzare lol, what the hell was the point of flipping Domingue, another weird one lol. Vatanen getting hurt really f***ed us, pretty frustrating.

That being said Coleman's deal was great, same with Greene and Hall, we're already getting some help from that one. I don't even want to think what would have happened if Hall was hurt down the stretch like Sami, yikes.

Just get a cheaper AHL goalie to back up Senn in Bing. Canucks are in a goalie crisis so they needed someone with NHL experience in case Demko also gets hurt.
