Hard to believe but Mcintyre may be worse than Domingue. A change of scenery if probably best for both of them.

He is but they save pocket change on Domingue's deal since he's getting his NHL salary in the AHL while McIntyre's getting less. And they give the crease to Senn for the playoff stretch ride down in Bing.

One thing lost in the TDL shuffle, one potential UFA target off the market in Muzzin:

Nothing earth shattering today. A bunch of meh for a bunch of meh.
Was hoping for a first about a month ago for Vatanen...and then a 2nd about a week ago for him. The injury killed his value, no other way to say it. Hopefully the prospect we got back is decent.
Sure glad we traded Greene and Coleman early....If they were dealt today...Greene for a 4th and Coleman for 2nd and prospect.

I think the Greene and Coleman deals would’ve netted the same return, it was the acquiring teams that made the difference. Lou overpaid for one of his guys as he does and probably would’ve today. Tampa traded a 1st for a 4th line winger today, probably would’ve paid up the same for Coleman.

Yeah all the action was last weekend. I'm happy with Kuokkanen, nice to ship out Domingue, and the whole Simmonds situation is extremely meh. Would have rather had him finish out the season and re-sign cheap at 1 year 2.5M. I think having him walk would have been better, he's good for the room and clearly the young guys like having him around and learning from him.

Is Zane related to Drew by any chance? :sarcasm:

Nah he's related to the kid I went to high school with that we all called B-Mac aka "Party Prince" who would throw these "ragers" with ridiculous stories that never made sense and a million hot girls willing to put out for everyone, but obviously no one from our high school was ever cool enough to get invited to validate their existence.

I think if Vats was healthy he probably would have been moved earlier for more too. I'm guessing we were hoping he'd get healthy enough to get into a game before the TDL, but it didn't happen.

Yeah I mean it just doesn't make sense that he would head to the Sabres.

They are 8 points out of the 2nd wildcard of a COMPETITIVE division so basically they have slightly more of a chance than we do in making the Playoffs with 20 games remaining.

I mean I could understand if he ended up on a Playoff-bound team but the Sabres?

Makes no sense UNLESS....UNLESS he and Fitz came to some sort of handshake agreement that he come back next season and re-sign, just so Fitz can get that 5th rounder now.

That's the only rationale I can come up with. :dunno::dunno::dunno:

It isn’t about market size. There are independent beat writers (Portzline in Columbus is a great example) in small markets that do a great job reporting on their team. It is about working hard and developing relationships and sources within the organization.

Abby and Chris don’t do that. They wait for the press release from the team. Corey at the Athletic does a better job on the analysis and deep dive stuff. But even a lot that is fluff that most fans probably don’t care about.

Yes but Portzline has also been in the industry for a very long time and has a well-established reputation in hockey circles. Way longer than Chris and Abbey, who don't have the connections or reputation that Portzline does. Chris only started working on a national level a couple of years ago, and Abbey was a baseball reporter who got moved onto our beat after Andrew Gross left, I believe.

On top of that Abbey already doesn't really seem to care all that much as we've seen by her Twitter posts.

All I'm saying is that people get fed up with lack of reporting by our beat writers, but it's so easy to have access to what's going on from a national level now. I think it's silly that people criticize our beat writers so much when they're honestly novices compared to what we used to have in TG and Chere.

You're right, of course- but I'm just bummed that there has seemed to be an actual descent into Mickey Mousedom over the last few years from a point where I thought we were arcing into a 'real' hockey market... after a long, arduous, ascent from Mickey Mousedom.

I get it. And you're right, we were spoiled with Chere and TG. They had far more established reputations than any of our beat writers do at this point.

I like Corey though and think he's doing good work.

overall happy with the day - sure there wasn't a blockbuster Palmeri deal, but still entering a loaded draft with 3 first-round picks is fun. Our prospect pool got significantly better with Foote, Bahl, Merkley, and Kuokkanen (2 former firsts 2 former seconds). We had good asset management in getting a return for any expiring contracts.

A Palmeri or Severson trade would have changed things significantly - but could start to see the franchise head in the right direction - no more delusional GM management.

There’s always more value to trade players long before the deadline. Teams can justify paying a higher price for a rental if they get that rental for a longer period of time. If hall dealt today he would get a first and probably no bahl

I’m happy we didn’t resort to trading Palmieri to Boston for the scraps they were offering. I’m glad they lost out on picking up a scoring forward, hopefully they get knocked out earlier this year.

Gotta say I'm not happy about any of the deals, they are all pointless and/or underwhelming. I really expected at least a third rounder for Simmonds and hoped we'd either sign Vatanen or that he'd return 2nd+ or even a late 1st. Also we flipped Domingue into an even worse goalie. Well it is what it is, we gained pretty much nothing but didn't really lose much either. Having gotten used to trades that favor the devils on paper, this is very disappointing.

if Brady who is younger under contract and less injury prone then vat got a first how the hell would vat have gotten a first? Come on man.
