I hate that he had to have surgery but love it that its finally getting fixed. This has been put off too long! He's been broken for a while. I had the surgery in 95 and had put it off for nearly 2 years...mistake. 25 years later arthritis and a second tear is pushing me for replacement. Recovery was painful so I'm glad he's going to be on the mend. Get him signed if we like him or trade him if he has no desire to be here. Either way, JA will most likely be a revived young man at someone's camp next fall.

The bad news: Murray’s back will need to be a daily priority — repeated exercise and stretches, proper moving and lifting techniques, etc. — for the rest of his life, not just for the rest of his playing career. At 26 years old, he has the back of a much older man.

The good news: Doctors don’t see any reason why Murray, if he keeps up with the daily exercises, shouldn’t be able to play regularly and sustain a long career.
Murray won’t be doing some of the same strenuous workouts as the rest of the Blue Jackets, but he’s spent the last two months doing daily workouts to build up his core muscles and to help relieve stress on the lower back area where the affected disk resides.

In the morning, when he’s just out of bed. In the afternoon, say, after practice. In his hotel room on the road. Each night before bed.
“It’s going to be constant. You have to keep up with your body,” Murray said. “It’s an everyday thing now, and you have to take care of it. For me, it’s thinking about the rest of my life, too, not just hockey.

“(The specialist) evaluated everything. The big thing is the daily exercises and stretches. Two a day at least, but you can always do more if you want. And it’s littlest things, too, like picking something up off the floor. Getting out of bed. Learning how to do things the perfect and proper way so you don’t hurt anything.”

Only Vegas has fewer home games remaining than Columbus, as the Blue Jackets begin an enormous swing through Western Canada. Fourteen of their final 15 are against teams in playoff position or legitimately still alive. But they’re gutting it out, currently in the East’s final post-season spot despite an injury list longer than your right leg. GM Jarmo Kekalainen said Cam Atkinson is the closest to return, although it won’t be on this trip. Kekalainen doesn’t feel his players get enough credit.

The Athletic recap confirms his back tightened up again after 2 games.

He has to be close to just calling it a day and just being concerned with how he'll live the rest of his life. If he reaches that point, the CBJ will have almost 11 million on IR next season and LOTS of money to spend.

Good, we have a lot of players needing new contracts. Jarmo isn't the type to go all out in FA, however it might be an opportunity that allows for the flexibility to position the team exactly how he wants it for the expansion draft.

The Athletic recap confirms his back tightened up again after 2 games.
Quote:
5. Murray back tightens

Defenseman Ryan Murray believed he’d found the answer to his chronic back pain, but he was out of the lineup again on Saturday. His return lasted just two games.

Murray’s back tightened near the end of Wednesday’s 3-2 loss in Calgary, The Athletic was told, so the decision was made to step back and reevaluate. It’s unclear if he’ll play on Sunday in Vancouver.

This is an incredibly frustrating situation for the Blue Jackets, especially for Murray himself. Since playing in all 82 games in 2015-16, Murray has missed 129 of the Blue Jackets’ 315 games (41 percent), not including all 10 playoff games last spring.

Murray’s play vs. Vancouver last Sunday in Columbus and vs. Calgary on Wednesday were reminders of how big a difference he makes when he’s in the lineup. He quickly moved up to the top pairing with Zach Werenski.
For the record, I hate everything and everything is terrible.

Without getting all the drama of it, Murray really needs to sit back for a few minutes and take a long term view of how this could affect the rest of his life. He is a very young man to have so severe a back problem.

Back injuries are no joke, which is why I'm worried about Texier. From the sound of it and the lack of updates since, I'm starting to worry if he's already entered "Horton territory" at a young age.

I agree that back injuries can be serious.

However, he has a stress fracture. Don't forget that Boone Jenner had a stress fracture in his back early on his career and it hasn't seemed to affect his style of play or cause more missed games down the road (so far, knock on wood).
