From a distance, it seems like Binghamton has started winning for 4 major reasons -

A: Their goaltending has improved massively - even with Senn's recent slide, he has his SV% up over .900 when it was comfortably below in the first half of the year
B: They added three top-line AHL players in Boqvist, Merkley, and Kuokkanen - they've lost Anderson (and Mermis and McLeod), but that's still a win, I think
C: They've changed their playstyle after Hynes left
D: A lot of players have improved over the course of the season. It's a very young forward group and that can happen, and it looks like it has happened. Schmelzer, Gignac, Sharangovich, Zetterlund, Maltsev, Studenic, Schnarr - these guys are scoring at 3rd line rates or better and it means the Devils really don't ice a 4th line at all. Even Baddock's boxcar numbers would be good for a 4th line player.

So many opinions on McLeod that aren’t even worth going into but Bastian is an interesting guy who might have longterm bottom6 potential.

I was hoping Bastian blossoms into a Simmonds type guy. Top 6 player, big body, net front presence, garbage goal scorer. At this point, it looks like we may have other, better players to fill that role now (Foote, Kuokkannen, etc).

Perhaps your assessment as a 4th liner with PP time is more realistic.

Just took a look over and Binghamton’s schedule is going to be rough to end the year. If they make it they’re going to have to earn it.

Every team they play aside from Bridgeport or Lehigh Valley is either battling for a playoff spot or top four in the conference. They play Hershey twice (2nd), Rochester twice (4th), and Belleville (1st) once.

If I'm not mistaken, Bingo is in a playoff spot right now, 3 points clear of Syracuse and 4 up on Laval with same number of games played.

If that's the case, they will have to play well to make the playoffs, but they probably don't need to keep winning 4 out of 5.

Good news is that Syracuse only plays Laval once the rest of the way.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American Hockey League announced today that Binghamton forward Ryan Schmelzer has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 8, 2020.
Schmelzer registered two goals and four assists for six points in three games over the weekend as the Devils continued their second-half surge in the North Division.
Schmelzer began the week with the first three-point night of his pro career, scoring the game-winning goal and picking up two assists in a 6-4 victory over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night. He notched a goal and an assist as Binghamton defeated Lehigh Valley, 5-1, on Saturday, and registered another assist in the Devils’ 3-0 win at Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Schmelzer finished the week with two power-play points and two shorthanded points as Binghamton improved its record to 24-7-0-0 since the Christmas break.
A second-year pro from Buffalo, N.Y., Schmelzer has totaled 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 51 games for Binghamton this season after tallying 24 points in 66 contests as a rookie in 2018-19. Schmelzer joined the Devils organization following four seasons at Canisius College, where he was an all-conference selection and served as team captain as a senior.
In recognition of being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week, Schmelzer will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Devils home game.

Seems like Bastian is playing better since McLeod got recalled. You could make the case playing with McLeod has been bad for Bastian’s development

So is McLeod taking BASTIAN to hang out with the bad kids after practice behind the practice arena dumpster and smoke cigarettes that McLeod stole from his old man’s truck and make cat calls at the girls?
