Below from Jeff Ulmer’s All About the Jersey recap after last night’s Big Win.

  • Hershey head coach Spencer Carbery in a pregame interview, mentioned Ben Street/Brett Seney tandem as the best he’s seen in the league and also credits the Devils’ transitional game and overall speed.

I think we all want Seney to succeed and find a place in the NHL.

Seney has NHL game and will succeed in the NHL. The only question is New Jersey or elsewhere. NHL teams are taking notice (including Washington).

Scooping a 23yr old prospect who’s produced offence at every level for FREE when his contract expires in a few months is a no brainer.

As a true freshman in College he led his team in scoring all 4 seasons. He’s leading Bingo in goals & points, tied for 17th in the AHL scoring race. With limited opportunity in New Jersey he scored 5 and assisted on another 8.

He showed me that he’s tough and scrappy. He is still on the very small side for a pro and many teams will only feature a player like him in a top six role fearing he cannot handle the traditional physical element of a bottom six role. He will need a team that wants him as a sparkplug role. I don’t doubt he will be given a chance by a team if NJ doesn’t want to keep him.

But let’s be honest, it’s Ben Street that is carrying Seney this season. Street has an NHL point and a better point per game in the AHL this season.

I know Street is 33 but because he’s outperforming Seney, I imagine he’s a pretty big impact NHL player right now. So I’m hoping the Devils can maybe get a 2nd and 3rd round pick for Street at this deadline. At least, if other teams are smart enough to see his huge performance this year.

Time will tell. For Seney he’s proven size is irrelevant.

The traditional top 6 bottom 6 is for losers in the new NHL. Playoff contenders are deep enough to have a top 9 bottom 3. Stanley Cup Champs have enough talent for a top 12.....4 lines that contribute offensively.

No it’s not. Give your head a shake. Teams don’t give unproven guys $2 million, especially if they don’t have raw physical abilities. He’s an Rfa, he’ll be back at camp in the fall.

Easy there. No harm letting someone having some fanciful fun. Haven’t you ever heard the old adage about not waking up the sleepwalker.

We live in reality. I’d rather discuss possibilities that could happen. Not live in fantasy land where some other teams are eagerly waiting to pickup Brett f**kin Seney.

Maybe you live in reality. Don’t speak for the rest of us. Have you ever met my sister in law? She has probably seen reality once or twice in her peripheral vision. Living in it? LOL.

Things getting a bit crowded down there with Anderson and Merkley playing as well as they are up here. I'd like to see more ice time for guys like Maltsev, Zetterlund, and Studenic - I wonder if NJ will consider moving someone like Gignac or Bastian for an RHD in a similar spot.
