Jerry Remy ponders if the Red Sox could do the same with baked beans, clam chowder and lobster running around Fenway. :help:

That would be pretty funny actually

This team is kind of ****ing amazing. And it's not like their record is fluky. It is exactly in line with their expected win/loss based on their run differential. Incredible.

And yet the Astros are even better. Good god, their Pythagorean record has them at 68 and 24! 68 AND 24!

Man this league is top heavy.

The only year the Red Sox have won 100 games was in 1946.

Right now they only have to play .535 ball to do it and they still could be in a one game playoff :help:

There are a lot of bad teams in the AL this year.

The lack of a 100 win season for that long has been a quiet obsession of mine for 20 years now. I really really want to see it just so I can stop thinking about it.

If they don't get it now that means the last three months of the season will be an epic, all-time disaster.

Love optimism and pessimism in the same post

No offence to Moreland...he has been good this year and I’m happy for him...but how bad are AL 1B this year if he is an all-star?
Well nice half glass empty for the guy attitude.

Meanwhile how about backing up this general opinionated post with some facts, stats and examples of who is better.

We shall wait while you Google. No rush

There aren’t better options...that’s the point I’m making. If you understood my post I am saying that the AL 1B crop must not be that great this year if a .288 BA/11 HR/43 RBI/.888 OPS gets you an ASG nod....and heck, you could even argue he should be the starter as his numbers are better than Abreu’s, who was voted in. I just feel like most years those kind of numbers wouldn’t get you a sniff at a spot on the team.

Last year the 1B were Smoak (.303 BA/22 HR/52 RBI/.964 OPS) and Alonso (17 HR/38 RBI/.933 OPS).

In 2016 it was Hosmer (.299 BA/13 HR/49 RBI/.831 OPS), Cabrera (.293/18 HR/53 RBI/.878 OPS), and EE (.267/23/80/.898).

In 2015 it was Cabrera (.350/15/54/1.034), Teixeira (.240/22/62/.876), and Pujols (.279/20/64/.816).

Don’t get me wrong, like I said I am really happy for Moreland but he is probably right there with Hosmer as having the worst numbers of any AL AS 1B in the last 4 years. He has been the best out of a very underwhelming group.

I hope Sale doesn't pitch.

He's a deserving all-star, but I'd rather not put a couple innings on the arm in July for exhibition baseball. Rest him and get him out there for the first game after the break.

Benintendi is up for the final roster spot as well.... but it also depends on who opts out of this, or gets injured between now and the 17th

you can make a case for Gurriel... half the HR, but 3 more RBI and hitting .303. But other than that its Moreland this year.

also helps that the steroids clock seems to have struck midnight on Chris Davis

Do people still care about the All Star Game and who makes it? Serious question...

I mean it's fun to talk about snubs, and who shouldn't be there and all, but caring? Nope.

Ever since they changed it that every team needs a representitive, it's really messed some things up. AKA Salvador Perez of the Royals getting in with his .211 BA and sub .300 OBP.

Changing the HR derby to the way they do it now has sucked too.

especially since the rule forced him in over Jed Lowrie (.290 16 HR 62 RBI)
