Jacob Olofsson playing on the 1st line for Sweden yesterday and potting a goal using speed, size and sick mitts. He should be on Swedens top-2 lines come December. Has a lot of offensive potential to tap into. Very intriguing prospect and great value at 56th overall for a projected late 1st rounder.

Sweden's WJC coach likes Olofsson:

CP: The other one is Jacob Olofsson (MTL), who was the top junior player in the Allsvenskan. He had an interesting season, somewhat up and down.
Monten:
He was very good every time I had him in November and in the pre-tournament games in December. I still don’t know if I made the right call not to put him on the final team. My feeling is he should have maybe been on that team. I know he was up and down. He had an injury at the Under-18s. I know a lot of scouts had issues with him before the draft. His club team went up a division, he scored I think eight game-winning goals. It was a surprise for me he didn’t get picked earlier.
CP: What stands out the most to you about him?
Monten:
His hockey IQ. He’s so smart, he’s big, strong, he always ends up on the right side of the puck. I think a lot of NHL teams are going to feel down the road we made a bad call.

Pronman: Sweden's world juniors coach Tomas Monten reports...

None of the boxscores or blogs I've read confirm this, do you have any sources or video of Olofsson's goal? By all accounts, it was actually Sebastian Walfridsson who scored.

EDIT: I was looking at the wrong boxscore, sorry!

I'm repeating myself, but this was such a good pick where we got him.

He's going to be a top 6 C at the WJC.
he plays and thinks the game like a Pro... he has good size and skates well, offensive upside might be limited but thats indeed a strong pick at that spot if he ends up as a good third line center in the same mold as Lars Eller....

They occasionally played together but in general Olofsson had the bigger role.

As a separate matter I'll point out a difference between Pastrnak's stats and Olofsson's stats, beyond the obviously higher PPG for David. David was also the leading scorer of his team. Jacob was the 5th scorer of his team.

Doesn't mean that much though (either way). Scherbak was easily the leading scorer of his junior teams. It was crappy teams and he was pretty much the only good player on them. Pretty sure you can find guys who were the 2nd or 3rd scorer of their junior team who became better than Scherbak.

I think he think the game better than Eller and is much more creative (though with slightly less tools), but ya I can see him becoming that level of player.

LOL Lars Eller who is the player with the less creativity In the league. Eller is only good defensively and to protect the puck on fore check.
In no way Olaf and him looks similar... not even the same play style at all.

Eller was a key player in the Caps Stanley cup conquest, he is a very strong and smart 2-way center with some nice stickhanding and great puck possession skills, his lack of vision and finish around the net is what prevented him to become a top 6 center but he is a pretty solid third to have on your team, I like him better than Danault personally... If Olofsson can become that, Ill be very happy, if he becomes better, thats absolutely great...

Incorrect. They are both tall, blonde and Scandinavian so they both technically LOOK similar. ;)

Before being drafted, Lars Eller was also a highly touted prospect with creativity.

"Here is Eller's scouting report from Elite Prospects.
A very allround and skilled forward. Eller has quick feet, soft hands and a good work ethic. He is a skilled playmaker, but also a decent scorer. Workd hard and is valuable in shorthanded situations. Quite spectacular player with few weaknesses."

Nothing says Olafson will be able to bring his offensive skills to the NHL.. but he's already strong defensively so at the worst if he become like Eller, a great 3rd liner centerman, that's a solid pick for a guy selected 56th overall. We drafted guy in the first round in the past with the hope they would become amazing 3rd line centermen (Chipchura, McCarron, etc)

I wouldn't compare him with Eller yet, at 18 he didn't play much in the SHL but at 19 he had a big year in the SHL so we'll see as Olofsson will easily have a much better year at 18 in the SHL since he just needs 1 pt to outproduce Eller but how much will he progress at 19? It's going to be interesting to see how it goes for him, he clearly had a good year and now we need to see how much he can build off that and progress over the next few years.
