2 1/2 games past the quarter mark of the regular season, and with 5 of their top 6 regular D missing half the season (on average), the Bruins have allowed the fewest goals against at 55 in just 23 games. And that is despite a couple of blowouts. Only one other team, Nashville at 56 in 23 games, is below 62 goals against.
They are tied for 22nd in the league with just 65 goals for. This would be the biggest area of concern.
I wonder if these Bruins are playing more conservatively because of the defense injuries or if they are missing their best breakout weapons. Or maybe there is some other cause for this offensive power outage they are experiencing.
Pasta and DeBrusk can't be expected to score all of the goals while #3 goal scorer, Bergeron, is out for a month. Other guys need to step up. And while I like the way JFK has been playing defense against top lines, taking just 3 shots in 8 games is not getting it done either, even when you score on 2 of them. He, and most of the rest of the team, seem to be playing not to lose rather than playing to win. They are eking out wins and OT losses for now but it's not enough in the Atlantic.
