Stapley with a goal and an assist. Denver up 5-0 over Alabama-Huntsville in the 3rd.

Josh Brook gets an assist and is now given a 5-minute major plus a game mosconduct for a hit from behind. He's done for the night.

Moose Jaw tied 3-3 in the third against Spokane.

3 pts for Stapley, although Denver has started off the season against weaker competition playing an Atlantic and WCHA team. Same for Harris/Primeau but the opposite for Gornaik who's team struggled last year and then with a young team had to face a powerhouse in BC to open the season and they swept them in a shocker as BC doesn't get swept that often although I haven't looked at their roster I believe they were the preseason favorite to win the HE title.

Brook with the assist on the PP and a +2 rating so far. 3-3 game so far with Ty Smith of the devils carrying his team ala Brook.

Romanov back in the line-up today after missing last game (I don't know if he was scratched or nursing a minor injury).

According to the lines, he is on the second pair and still with Nesterov. He went from being the 7th D to the third pair and today is on the second pair.

After one period, Romanov already has 6:25 TOI (2:39 TOA) spread out over 7 shifts and has 1 SOG and 1 BLK. He's been the fourth most used player in the first.

The team has been resting players the last few ganes (last game Romanov was rested), so this opens up an opportunity for Romanov to get more ice time and show what he can do.

Watched part of the first period and as usual, he looks like he belongs. Mistake free hockey. He really reminds me of Mete from last season. The young rookie who makes the big team and plays with no complex. Both players are really smooth skaters, fast on their skates and in their decision making, and neither is afraid to jump up and join the rush.

After two periods, Romanov is at 11:00 TOI spread out over 14 shifts (3:44 TOA). He's well on his way to surpassing his most TOI from a few games ago.

He continued his solid play in the second. It's nothing spectacular but he gives his coach reason to feel comfortable when he's on the ice. The puck doesn't stay on his stick for long. As soon as he gets it, he sends it to a teammate. His head is always up looking for his options and he almost always finds someone. And his passes are always forward. CSKA is good in the transition, so Romanov has someone to pass to.

Fonstad with an assist. Prince Albert is tied 1-1 with Saskatoon not even 10 minutes into the game.

No points for Hillis in a 3-2 OT win against London today. He was -1, had 4 SOG, and was 67% on face-offs.

Teasdale with a goal. Blainville still trailing 2-1 against Victoriaville.

Edit: make that trailing 3-1.

Hillis is having a bad season start. After being 3rd in scoring on his team, he is tied 9th in fwd scoring (tied 11th total).

Schnarr (75th, 2017), Ratcliffe (35th, 2017), Hawel (101st, 2017), Bertuzzi (2019 eligible, 1st-2nd round), Toropchenko (113rd,2017), Ralph (UD, 2017), Stevenson (2019 eligible) and Comisso (UD, 2016) are ahead right now.

After being almost PPG last year (59 in 60), it is a dissapointing start of the year (even though 6 of the leaders are older).

Despite a 6-2 loss, Teasdale had a good game. He had a goal and an assist, was +1, had 3 SOG, had 2 hits, and was 63% on face-offs.

Fonstad with the 1 assist in a 6-2 win against Saskatoon. He was +1 and had 1 SOG.

Scott Walford with an assist for Victoria. They're currently losing 2-1 to Vancouver late in the first.

Oshawa completed a comeback. They were down 5-1 and ended up tying the game and forcing OT.

McShane with an assist on the 4th goal.

Watched Suzuki vs McShane from last week. Owen Sound won 4-2 but it wasn't a very good game from either team. OS's PP was terrible as Oshawa's. Both had long 5 on 3 PP's and couldn't do shit. Suzuki was playing LW and then at times he took draws and stayed at center. They had him on the point on the PP. Played with Hancock and Robinson who don't seem to be the most skilled guy. They said 2 of Hancock's 4 goals were empty netters.

What I did like was that Suzuki's skating and speed looked good, much improved from when I saw him 2 years ago while watching McNiven. This looked to be the case in the 1 preseason game I saw but still I wanted to focus heavily on him. He had a few chances to score, and had some nice passes but overall just didn't seem to play a high energy game. Perhaps after crushing the OHL the past 2 years he's adjusting to the let down of getting sent back as he's too good for the OHL but not NHL ready.

If he gets traded it will be interesting to see how they use him as with his size it's possible he's more of a winger especially with Kotka and Poehling he might end up their anyway depending on what happens at this summers draft. He took a boarding penalty but I thought it was a weak call. He ended up with one assist that he got a few mins into the game but nothing special. At one point he was about to have a breakaway, one Oshawa player grabbed him and then another slashed the stick out of his hand so they had to call that (wasn't the best night for the refs) too bad it wasn't a PS though.

McShane wasn't very impressive, he started out on the 2nd line but was moved up to the Noel line and played the point on the PP also. The play by play guys said that they felt Oshawa was having a let down after a big game the night before where they scored 7 goals so maybe that was it. He did have a few nice passes and on the 5 on 3 I believe, he flubbed a shot where he had an open net. Skating and speed need to get better but I just don't like how he rarely seems to move his feet. If he sees the puck he'll get up and go but so many times you see him skate a little and then just coast. Hope he can work on that over the next few years cause he's certainly skilled.

The NCAA rankings are out now that all but the Ivy league teams have started their season.

USCHO has,

4th - SCSU (Poehling)
9th - Denver (Stapley)
12th - Northeastern (Primeau/Harris)
15th - Wisconsin (Gorniak)

Hawkey's team was 5th.
