Here’s a crazy thing about this stretch for the Gulls. They've gotten points in 19 of 21 games (16-2-3), and risen to the 2nd best percentage in the division. However, going back a little further, the Division-leading Barracuda have gotten points in 19 of 24 games (16-5-3)... and have gone 1-3-1 against the Gulls in that stretch. Without those head to head games, the Barracuda are 15-2-2 against the rest of the league in that stretch, explaining why they STILL maintain a five point lead over the Gulls with two games in hand.
Also, don't sleep on the Condors, who without appearing to make much noise have gone on a 10-game winning streak to stay quite actively in the mix for first-round home ice.
The Gulls aren’t going to be able to just coast in the remaining 26 games. Next Tuesday will mark the beginning of the final third of the schedule, and Bakersfield (two points ahead but with two more GP) and Tucson (two points behind with equal GP) aren’t just going to lie down and give the Gulls an easy path to home ice in the post-season.
Their remaining schedule sorts out like this:
San Jose (.725 winning percentage, 1st in Pacific) - 5 games (2 home, 3 away)
Colorado (.558, 5th) - 4 games (2h/2a)
Stockton (.456, 6th) - 4 games (2h/2a)
Ontario (.390, 7th) - 4 games (3h/1a)
Bakersfield (.625, 2nd) - 3 games (1h/2a)
Tucson (.607, 4th) - 3 games (1h/2a)
Manitoba (.500, 8th in Central) - 2 games (both in Winnipeg)
San Antonio (.522, 7th in Central) - 1 game (in San Diego)
