Pretty funny to see they picked Mark Streit despite him being one of those who had the guts to say publicly he hates the idea.

Just curious is there any chance that Chara, Hossa, or Streit retires after the end of the season? Especially say if one of them were to win the cup and the latter two are declining extremely fast.

Can't argue that the roster isn't kinda strong. But the speed of that defense would worry me a bit, this tournament will be all about speed and I see only two guys there I would label as good skaters(Josi, Sekera). Chara and Streit can hopefully compensate that with their great experience.

Hossa-Kopitar-Zuccarello
Bodker-Nielsen-Vanek
Tatar-Draisatl-Hansen

That's pretty solid, a good top line, a really balanced second line, and third line with youth and speed. The offense will be somewhat unbalanced though if Ehlers, Niederreiter and Rieder fill out the team. Eller would be a better fit for a 4th line. In the KHL they have Regin, Kostitsyn and Mursak, Thoresen in the SHL, that are more experienced but I doubt any euro based players will be selected.

I hope this team or the U23 wins the tournament, just to show how much of a joke this tournament is.

What´s the feeling about it in Danemark?

As far as I know, nobody in Denmark is talking about World Cup. What is interesting for us is World Championship and olympic qualification in the start of september.

I cant imagine the Danish players participating in World Cup unless there are some penalties involved for players declining.

I forgot about the qualification tournament...and then they nominated already 4 danish players today. Pathetic! Apperently the rule is similar like for the All Star Weekend: Players need to participate (this is probably the reason why Streit and Hossa didn't make any further comments.)

I believe the Olympic qualification is to be played before the World Cup. I can imagine a scenario where several of the Danish (and other participating nations' players) get 'injured' during the Olympic qualifacation tournament and have to withdraw from the World Cup. Other players may need to rest nagging injuries as well.

Try to imagine a 23-man European roster exclusively from the NHL if 4-6 of the best players have withdrawn due to injury. I think they will be reluctant to pick players from the KHL or elsewhere in Europe, so if it is strictly NHL players, the roster becomes very thin in a hurry.

Wow thats the ugliest jersey I have ever seen in hockey!
They'll lose every game, not one member cares about that team enough to give it all.
What a joke...

Once again I will take Team Europe over not seeing thier players against other countries perceived best!

You want to be facing the best players in the world.

the U23 team is a collection of Forwards who rack there points against the bot 2nd; 3rd; and 4ths lines of the world.

Now they are going to be asked to play against the 1st line depth of the other countires of the world.

Gaudreau is 2.26 EVp/60 facing mid 2nd comp.
But 1.11 EVp/60 facing 1st comp. (The comp he will see in tourney)
Not there with the best 1st comp forwards in the game.
when you look at the list it is obvious who should be on the rosters.

Upper 1st comp:
Draisatl EUR 2.77
Hall No 2.77
Wheeler US 2.59
Tarasenko RUS 2.48
Jagr NO 2.28
Landeskog 2.05

Bergeron CAN 1.66
Stepan USA 1.62
Stamkos CAN 1.61
Oshie USA 1.60
Voracek CZH 1.59
Eberle No 1.58
O'rielly 1.57
RNH 1.52
Steen SWE 1.50
Toews CAN 1.48
Crosby CAN 1.47

Lower 1st comp
Backstrom SWE 2.23
Dubinsky 2.23
Hansen EUR 2.18
Saad 2.16
Schiefle 2.15
Couturier 2.15
Henrique 2.12
Pacioretty 2.09
Marchand 2.06

I would say that goaltender Greiss and forward Niederreiter are making a huge case for themselves in the playoffs now

Was watching the dallas game last night and in the powerbreak they had a advertise about the world cup, could not stop laughing when a manly voice says something along with "It is all about playing for the emblem on the crest". I will actually see this tournament for sure, just because the players playing it, but the concept with the u-23 and European team, is making me throw up. Make a pre-qual with Swiss, Denmark, Slovakia, Germany and Norway.

I can already see the Scandinavians and Slavics with Germans playing together as well melt team, playing hearts out remembering their long term traditions and Legacy, sacraficing their body in front of every shot remembering the Legends of their Combined nation doing it for decades..... Google could sponsor automatic translator 's to their eears so they'd at least speak same language

Saw the same one earlier. Ridiculous.

Team Leftovers should just injure themselves... Why are you risking the season for such an ugly sweater?

Indeed, which Canadian kid doesn't dream of playing for his continental age group against his own country?

Man...I'm NOT the only one looking forward to seeing Team U23 play...Plenty of these guys played either with or against each other in college/ junior...

NOT only with they NOT have any trouble coming together as a team...They're gonna upset one of the top Euro nations...BANK ON IT!

Maybe they will, maybe they won't.

Either way I'll be rooting for Finland/Russia/Sweden to shell the YoungGunz 8-0 each game so that this horrific idea (introduced for the sake of "parity") never returns.
