Bolt and De Grasse smiling and laughing with each other as the cross the line in the 200 is what makes the Olympics fantastic

Bolt's grin seemed to carry a touch of irritation, and that was confirmed in a post-race interview where he got all grumpy about De Grasse going too hard at the end.

It's how it should be. Bolt has dominated the sport for over a decade and is still the best. De Grasse is the future and will be the gold medalist in Tokyo.

Silver! Very happy for how the race went. Our boy has a brilliant future ahead of him.

Anyone else catch Donavan afterward saying 'De Grasse is the second fastest man in the world... in the 200'

Anyone that knows what I'm talking about, that whole episode was rather embarrassing in hindsight

Are you talking about the Bailey vs Johnson race in Toronto?

He didn't get second in the 100, is what I'm assuming he was referring to? He got 3rd, didn't he?

Yeah, not just that but the whole pissing match we had leading up to it. Bailey won and set the record for the 100, Johnson did the same for the 200. We both start calling our own countries athlete the "fastest man in the world" at the same time, then realized the neighbour across the border was saying the same thing for their guy. That started a big schoolyard like shouting match that could only be resolved by having the two athletes hold their own special 150M... which didn't solve anything because Johnson injured himself halfway through it and pulled out

I wonder how much of a **** show that would have been if the internet and message boards were common back then.

He didn't injure nothin. He knew he was beat and faked the injury to try and save face.

Bronze in the 50km run-walk. After getting screwed over by the Japanese athlete, Canada protests and is awareded Bronze.

It's been the case that the winner of the 100M is unofficially called the fastest man in the world for decades.

This is even born out by studies that show that the peak speed in the 100M is higher than in the 200M (even though the average speed is higher in the 200M since you don't have to waste as much time in the start).

It was an entirely dickish move to suddenly try to change that in order to claim the title.

Bronze in women's soccer.

Bronze for Lamaze in equestrian. Kinda heartbreaking...he was 1st after the semi-final, 1st after the finals, but in a 6-way jumpoff he had 1 fault (fastest time) and that dropped him to 3rd.
