Per Victor Findlay add:

F - Kris Hodge (Woodstock, MHL) - Acadia
F - Jimmy Soper (Truro, MHL) - Laurier
D - Zachary Core (Sarnia, OHL) - Laurier

Both Hodge (Shawinigan) and Soper (Kitchener) have CHL experience.

Laurier ran with 30 total players (including goaltenders - though a few did not play any games due to injury) last year and had 6 graduating players. I felt they were 1 defenceman shy of completing their offseason prior to today's announcements (sitting at 6 recruits). Soper was a forward from Waterloo I was aware of, but was not sure if he would commit locally, and if so, to Laurier, Waterloo or maybe even Guelph. I would now think this would wrap up the Laurier recruiting season. Any more players would likely indicate some players leaving. After years of turnover, last year Laurier only had 1 non-graduating player not come back for 2015-2016 (which I believe was academic related).

If Laurier is not losing players from last year's team, I am very pleased with the offseason. Laurier lost 3 of its top 7 defencemen from last year and really needed to shore up the blueline with some CHL experience. They recruited 2 defencemen with CHL experience, one who should be solid defensively (Alex Annecchiarico) and one who has played a substantial amount of time with Sarnia (Zach Core) over the past 3 seasons, along with 1 defenceman early in the offseason (Jacob Hetherington) who is 6'4 and can provide depth.

Up front they add a bluechip player in Andrew Fritsch (STU Transfer) who scored 202 points in his final 210 regular season OHL games. The rest of their forwards are more "below the radar" but are mostly high quality from Tier II with 3 of the 4 captaining their teams this year and all leading their team in scoring (either regular season or combined - I had to tweak some criteria to make it look good):

F - Neil Aird (Captain of Miramichi, led team in scoring)
F - Jimmy Soper (Captain of Truro, led team in scoring for combined regular season/playoffs)
F - Danny Hanlon (Captain of Trenton, led team in scoring - team won the OJHL, Dudley Hewitt and were the top team in the RBC Cup round robin where Hanlon again led the team in scoring)
F - Cole Porter (Alternate Captain of La Ronge - led team in scoring)

Also big shoutout to Finder24 for all the updates and making this offseason far easier to track and far more interesting.

Sorry for the lack of updates here guys. Full disclosure I've joined the front-office team with UOttawa's program, so I won't be as active on here.

Full credit to Victor Findlay on carving out a niche that nobody previously thought existed. He's doing a kick-ass job.

Victor Findlay has corrected his post from yesterday. Despite sources (I believe from Laurier), Zach Core (Sarnia, OHL) is not attending Laurier next year.

Laurier once again must be in the hunt for another defenceman. Core would have been a great fit.

Yeah, very strange situation. Laurier posted their recruit class to Twitter, which included Zach Core, and then delete the post a couple hours later. I talked with Core today, and sure enough he's not going to Laurier.

Not sure what happened there, but it's not a good look for Laurier, that's for sure. I agree, I think they need one more defender, and Core would have fit right in.

Victor Findlay has corrected his post from yesterday. Despite sources (I believe from Laurier), Zach Core (Sarnia, OHL) is not attending Laurier next year.

Laurier once again must be in the hunt for another defenceman. Core would have been a great fit.

On an extremely busy Thursday (where the big news was St. FX officially announcing their 2016-2017 recruit class), as well as Concordia adding former 44 goal and 90+ point forward in Anthony Deluca, Laurier also publicly finalized their class as well.

An additional 3 players not previously posted above were added:
D - Braydon Blight (Truro, MHL)
D - Jeremy Leclerc (Powell River, BCHL)
F - Lucas Batt (Carleton Place, CCHL)

Laurier likely needed one more major junior experienced defenceman and while they lost out on Core, they add some experience and a right handed shot in Braydon Blight who played parts of 2 seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs and 1 with the Saint John Sea Dogs. He appears to be a physical defensive first defenceman, but with some offense, leading the Bearcats this year for points from the blueline.

Leclerc also shores up the backend (and if no players are leaving) would bring Laurier's defence group to 9 players. He has good size being listed at 6'1 195, and appears to have decent mobility, coming off 27 and 29 point seasons in the BCHL (putting him 1st and 2nd on his team in defenceman scoring in thos 2 years). With any other Tier II league, I would not have thought twice, but given the large number of scholarships out of that league, I would have thought on the surface that would have been enough for a D1 offer. I will have to wait to see him in person.

Batt is the only 1996 recruit, and brings 2 year of QMJHL experience (all while in his 16 or 17 year old season) followed by leading Amherst in scoring as an 18 year old and then Carleton Place last season, finishing 2nd in league scoring. His coach in Carleton Place described him as a physical, 2 way, north-south type of winger. That type of "lunch pail" hard working, grinding style should fit with Greg Puhalski's general philosophies and style of play. That being said, given his offensive prowess the last 2 years, I expect him to step in and be a key offensive player in his first year.

St. FX announced their recruiting class today and it is a good one...

http://www.goxgo.ca/sports/mice/2016-17/releases/20160714idp88j

They are bringing in 9 new players, including 8 skaters. Anyone know what skaters won't be back for them this year outside of Chiarlitti/Lewis/Maschmeyer? Goalie Morgan Clark was their only 5th year guy I believe.

Dunno. But I'mma fixin' to find out. Highland Games are over so we're all somewhat sober now and it's time to start looking forward to hockey season and given that it's hotter than a blast furnace outside, thinking of the rink cools me off for a nanosecond.

I'm just happy that it appears we'll keep the best name in all of hockey right now.

He can play - he left the Q a year early (unless his Feb., 1995 birthday is not correct).

He turned 21 this past February which means he could have continued playing pro until this coming Christmas. He has likely decided that 1 full year of ECHL was enough.
So, you can play a full pro year when you're 20 years old and still be eligible ?

Hearing a rumor about Danny Moynihan going to Dal this year. Anyone confirm this?

Also, Mitchell Maynard will not be playing for Dal this year. He played 3 years at SMU while doing Pre-Eng courses. He is going to Dal to finish his Engineering degree.

Yes, there's definitely something there. I don't have full confirmation yet from either side, but if Moynihan plays CIS, Dalhousie will be his team. Some people believe he may go pro for the first half of the year and then come to DAL for 2nd semester. Either way, he's a massive pickup for DAL if he comes to CIS.

Probably the biggest name recruit Concordia has added for some time.

I know the Stingers play in a barn but one would think that they would attract more players due to the fact they are in Montreal.

Spoke with 2 AUS coaches (neither from Dal) and both say Moynihan is going to Dal. As Finder says, either sooner or later.

Yup. Professional games do not count until you are 21 AND it's January of the current season (the CIS handbook outlines a specific day in early January which I believe is the first Saturday of the month which means it's a different 'day' each year).

This exception was to allow potential student athletes to 'give it a chance' without an eligibility penalty.

Another example would be Josh Kidd who played a year of AHL before coming to UNB.

Note: in Josh's case he did not receive a CHL package because he played in the AHL before the rule changed to include AHL. The rule changed to protect players who sign a 2-way (AHL/ECHL) contract and never see day in the AHL.

Frederick Roy was pretty big last year (92 point QMJHL season followed by 2 seasons with the Rochester Americans - although apparently he is gone this year).

Looking at last year, they also had Scott Oke (71 points in the Q), Luca Ciampini (77 points in the Q) Matthew Boudreau (75 points in the Q) and add Deluca this year and Sanche (72 points in the Q). Of their 24 skaters last year, 21 of them had QMJHL experience.

Their issue really seems to be goaltending, with all of their goalies in the last 2 seasons who played more than 1 game posting sub 0.900 save percentages.

Their goaltending will get better this year. They have a least one goalie lined up who will make a big difference, pending announcement.
