Dressler would be a nice add to the roster. So would Harris. So would Laurent.

Will be an interesting offseason.

Good player, would have preferred they go after Smith. Who knows, maybe they still will but doubtful considering other holes they need to fill.

Could someone explain to a fan who just doesn't know enough about the rest of the league why the Riders released Dressler in the first place? Did he have a poor season? Or are the Riders just rebuilding and cutting ties with their vets?

Whatever the case, it seems like a great move!

New coach felt Dressler and Chick were not worth the money they were getting. This often happens when new coachs come in they clear out high salary veterans to free up money for "their" guys. Sometimes works, sometimes bites teams, but most CFL coachs do this.

I like the signing. Having a good slot receiver in the CFL, particularly with a QB without great arm strength in Willy, is a huge thing. He gives Willy a safety valve over the middle. Moore was that guy for Bombers but ultimately the fact he couldn't stay on the field doomed him here.

It's going to make me feel real dirty to cheer for Dressler though. But I really hope he scores a TD against Jones' (4-14:naughty:) Riders this year.

He's American, will be 31 when the season starts, and not quite the player he once was. Cutting him made sense from a salary cap standpoint for Saskatchewan.

Nice signing. Would be familiar with Willy, LaPo. LaPo would know what he has in Dressler and how to get him the ball in open field.

Smith would be intersting too. But lots of other holes to fill.

Oh great, who's next Geroy Simon? Joe Poplawski?:shakehead

Dressler is 31. 31. Receivers play until their late 30's, sometime even early 40's. Particularly a guy who doesn't depend on speed. This is a ridiculous statement.

A good slot receiver is huge. It's why Bombers gave Nick Moore a huge salary. It's why it killed them that he couldn't stay healthy. Dressler is a big pickup for them.

Geroy Simon is only 40!:sarcasm:

Was hoping for Duron Carter but at only 24 he was probably way too young for the Bombers!

?
he tried out for the NFL last season.
he's still a player.

Never said he wouldn't be an effective player. Trying out for the NFL last season really doesn't say much; look at Casey Printers, he blew chunks after getting his NFL shot.

It's just the reality of playing in the salary cap era of the CFL (the real cap era, not the joke era where everyone circumvented). If you're over 30 and American, it's very likely that you're considered disposable. The gap between Dressler and the best of a dozen 23-24 year old international receivers narrows, while the gap between salary demands widens.

You want to be negative for the sake of being negative about a good signing go ahead. Your wrong, simply put.

Carter is not a slot receiver. It's a different position .

I'm looking forward to seeing Dressler haul in a 7 yd catch, on a wide open crossing pattern, and turning it into a 30+ yd gain.

Will be fun to see that in blue and gold, rather than green and white.

I don't really follow football too much anymore, what are they going to do to address the terrible O-line?

Yup, was going to say the same thing. Will be interesting to see how much money dressler will absorb. His signing won't mean much if they don't address that poor oline and protect willy from being injured
