A couple of the NCAA guys are pretty interesting too.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Aidan Muir's season goes. He's already 6'4'' 212lbs at 20 years old and had a solid freshman season. The two big-bodied wingers above him in scoring have graduated too, so he could see a pretty prominent role.

I caught a couple of Tyler Vesel's games on TV last year too and was impressed, he's no slouch and will benefit from a full run in the NCAA with a great coach in Dean Blais.

Not that he's a prime prospect or anything anymore... but don't the Oilers still own the NHL rights to Zharkov?

He was toiling away in the VHL (2nd tier Russian league) last year after it looks like he basically flunked out of the KHL.

He even played 1 game in the MHL (Russian Junior league) last season. I'm not certain that's a sign his game has regressed badly since his promising days in the OHL... but my guess is that it has. He looked like he could have been a steal in his draft when he fell but it looks like the scouts may have been right to let him fall.

Anyway... thanks for this thread... it will be interesting to watch it this season as there is more depth in the pipeline than in years past...maybe not elite depth past the first few obvious names like Nurse/Draisaitl... but there's a lot of interesting prospects in the next tier or two down as well.

You've got to think that one of these years lightning will finally strike and we'll see a few of those darkhorses bust out and turn into NHL players.

Daniil Zharkov is still technically an Oilers prospect, and I knew that when I wrote the OP, but I couldn't for the life of me find where he was playing this year.

Social media, Eliteprospects, Google - no love. If someone does find out where he is, I'll add him.

It's possible he's not even playing hockey anymore... he may have fallen that far.

Philip Larsen has had a nice start. 4 points in 6 games, three assists in his last two games.

What do you guys think about a worst skating but better passer and IQ marleau as a draisaitl comparison?

Edit: thanks

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best NHL comparable to Draisaitl is, IMO, Nick Bäckström.

Hey guys, came here to ask people a little closer to the Oilers camp situation about forward Kyle Platzer.

There's been speculation in Owen Sound for a while now that he's not a 100% lock to make the AHL, and might return for an OA year in the OHL. It's pretty rare for a guy that's as accomplished as him at the junior level, but the Oilers still seem to have a pretty competitive roster in Bakersfield.

So my question is, is Platzer a virtual lock to stay with Bakersfield, or is the ECHL also a possibility? The latter obviously makes an OHL return possible, if unlikely. Ballpark percentage?

While it isn't impossible, it's really rare for signed players to be returned to the CHL for their overage seasons. And if for whatever reason he doesn't make the Condors, he could just as easily be sent the Norfolk in the ECHL.

Platzer should have about a 50/50 chance to start the season in Norfolk or Bakersfield. Assuming he will be used as a RW, he has Ford, Miller and Pakarinen ahead of him and should battle Chase and Roy for playing time on the 3rd or 4th line. Starting in the ECHL, as Winquist did last year, would be a good opportunity to play big minutes and show his value. Really tough to call right now..

Condors potential lines

R. Hamilton - Draisaitl - Miller
Slepshyev - Yakimov - Pakarinen
Moroz - Khaira - Ford
Kessy - McRae - Platzer
Winquist - Chase - Roy

Yeah that's what I've been arguing to the other Attack fans for months. Lesser players than Platzer have not returned for overage seasons. Thanks for the quick response!

Any reason you assume he'd line up on the RW? He's a LHed shot and Im unaware if he's played any time on the starboard side.

EDIT: Nope I'm dead wrong, Platzer is RH'ed.

If I recall Plazter shoots right.

Oh my gerd! When did they perfect handedness orientation change? Thats awesome, I completely believed he was a leftie. Awesome, we need some RHed prospect depth.

I retract my previous statement. :)
