Avs need Nashville to lose but they are beating the Wild 2-0. Minnesota is such a useless team, probably the most irrelevant team in the NHL

Anyone notice how Dan Rosen stops tweeting the second the eastern team/Chicago is losing?

Looking at the Hawks' payroll it's going to be interesting who the cap casualties are/is this coming summer and in 2017. Their UFA's/RFA's for this summer are Andrew Shaw (2.5M), Marcus Kruger (1.5M), Phillip Danault (833K), Brandon Mashinter (575K), Dennis Rasumussen (575K), and Michal Rozsival (800K). They currently have just under 2M in cap space.

However, next season is when Artem Anisimov goes from making 3.283M to 4.5M per season, and also when Brent Seabrook goes from making 5.8M to 6.875M per season. You gotta wonder what's gonna happen with Marian Hossa and that contract of his and how it'll affect the Blackhawks.

Another future problem is that Artemi Panarin and Teuvo Teravainen are RFA's in 2017. Gonna be interesting to see how they handle things moving forward.

Ouch, Brent Seabrook hasn't been exactly worth 6.875 lately. Completely lost again on that one goal yesterday.

A Stars v. Caps SCF might be pretty amazing

It might be, but we'll never find out. With that joke of a division and getting to take the entire postseason off last year, LA is going to be so well rested for their SC run this year. They're gunna just be too much for the rest of the west once the tourney starts; unless CHI reinforces very well at the TDL and manages to build a third line around TT that's good enough for Shaw, Kruger and Garbutt to play together on the 4th, finds another top 4 dman...and Quenneville eventually blenders his way into using Dano & Hossa around Toews.

Not that it means anything but if the Jets win tmrw all the central teams would be in the top 8 of the western conference.

Even when going 8-2-0 in our last 10, we have gained 1 point against the Hawks and Wild and 2 points on the Stars.

Damn difficult to make up ground.

That's always the tough part because you can pass one team that's struggling but you'll never pass all teams because someone else is bound to be doing well. We just have to take it one team at a time, stay ahead of Winnipeg and look at Nashville who has gone 4-4-2 in their last 10.

The Habs really lost their lead, didn't they?

yeah stars, ain't making it all the way. teams like stars rarely go all the way. they are bit too flawed and will most likely get exposed in playoffs.

i hope they do though. would be good for hockey. though i personally don't mind at all the type of hockey LA plays.

Doesn't help having to play without Carey Price and Brendan Gallagher. The longer they are without them, the more they'll drop

Avs and Habs and a plethora of other teams just show how much a good goaltender can do for you in a season.

But it is also the reason why IMO none of those two teams will do anything in the playoffs unless a goalie stands on his head for a whole 2 months in the playoffs. That rarely happens anymore and that is why a good goalie can take a mediocre team only so far.

I would be very surprised if the Habs would win it all. They have the D and goaltending but aside from Patches, their forward group is simply too weak IMO.

The Avs actually are somewhat back in the hunt IMO. Probably not for long once Varly comes back down to earth and Rinne finds his game but still.

This season is crazy. If the Avs would have lost 5 straight instead of winning those games, they would have a 4 point lead in the Matthews race.
Teams are all sticking together and the Central has started to look more normal after NSH, STL and especially WPG have hit a rut.

Also Pittsburgh is completely falling apart while Ovi and the Caps are going for the presidents trophy and the Oilers are in the playoff hunt.
Craziness.

The Avs just need to hold on to 5th in the division. I think that the central will for sure be putting in both wild cards.

Predicted a caps cup win at the start of the season and looking good so far but a lot can change. LA will most likely go deep with their terrible division.

What a disaster it's been in Anaheim. Unbelievable the kind of fall they've had this year. (Always thought they weren't as good as their records the past few years but man what a mess)

Even Columbus and Pittsburgh doing poorly were big shocks to me.

The best spot to come in for the playoffs (if your in the central) will be the pacific wild card spot. If you can get by LA in round 1 it'll look good for you round 2. Then it's just a matter of beating one central team.

Nice to see Anaheim falter. I've been a Kesler hater for years. Now they have Bieksa and who knows, maybe Burrows one day as well.

Biased hatred aside, Kesler hasn't consistently produced offence since 2011. Even that year, Malhotra took the toughest matchups and Kesler feasted offensively vs non playoff teams and on the PP. VS playoff teams at 5v5 I wouldn't be surprised if his production is quite poor.

6 year, $6.875M/yr extension kicks in next year too. That's not going to be pretty.
