Boston played its best hockey with a bunch of young nobodies in the defensive rotations... heck our best hockey was played without Martin, Letang, Scuderi, or Orpik... yes we have to account for the Maatta and Pouliot injuries for the start of the season, but two vets and 4 young guys is 100% acceptable Despres, Maatta, and Bortuzzo should be counted on for heavy minutes down the stretch. Dumoulin is ready. Pouliot almost made the team out of camp last year. Ulf jr needs a shot... then you have Harrington and Roupp, you aren't going to rely on them for major roles, but they have reached the injury fill in stage... that's nine right there on top of whomever is retained from letang/Martin/Scuds/Nisky/Orps/Engellend... its far from a bad situation... we should have moved Nisky at the deadline, and maybe orpik too... we still may be able to get something for their rights... we just cannot be afraid to have 3 or 4 very young guys taking big minutes because its the way teams are winning in this age of the NHL
