Well a #1 or #2 overall pick would make for a more successful (in the grand scheme of things) season than getting to the trade deadline in 8th-10th place, making a panic move that brings some stop gap rental in, then limp into the playoffs and get bounced out easily.

Yup pretty much like last season when Holland panicked and brought in Legwand so we could limp into the the playoffs and get bounced by the Bruins.

If Babcock actually plays Cleary at all this season, I won't watch the game. If they aren't trying to win, then there is no point wasting my time. He better be on LTIR all year or in the press box and never set foot on the ice. Playing Glendening of Anderssen over Jurco is pretty bad, as well.

Signing Cleary can only mean one of the kids is getting bumped back to GR to start the year. From a personnel standpoint...the move is unnecessary. There's no need for another 3rd/4th line winger. This team can't sign a top 4 defenseman so they overpay to keep Quincey as a 4th or 5th D and they bring back a washed up veteran winger to steal a job away from a younger that can help them win.

To me, there's got to be a trade in the works for a defenseman where a young forward is going because where are you going to fit all these guys? They can't possibly force a guy like Sheahan back to GR because they need Dan Cleary's declining skills and brittle body to occupy a lineup spot. I'd hate to be a prospect in this system. Yes, you're accountable for bringing max effort to earn a spot on the team but you also have to give these guys a fighting chance to even make this team. This team just threw away Jarnkrok and pick on a rental...they don't seem afraid to cough up a decent prospect to grab a defenseman.

If you're going to have Jurco up with the club, do you want to waste him in a checking line role? A healthy Zetterberg and Datsyuk are the reasons why a guy like Jurco won't have a spot to start the season.

My fear is Cleary bumps out Sheahan and Helm ends up centering the 3rd line.

They didn't, but they did healthy scratch him for 10 of the first 11 games. That didn't work out too well.
