I think thats what the county is realizing too...that the arena "COULD" be profitable without the Panthers there.that is the one thing that has me worried. looking at the previously released data from the Arena during the 1/2 lost season--the arena made more money off of non hockey events.
But Viola and Co is working with the county to get a better working relationship and this year is being used as a gauge to see what is what with the team
With the vote on the requested money by Viola & co. now delayed until at least May (according to that article...unfortunately you have to be a subscriber to read online), it presents a very awkward situation for this season. The county is going to see record low attendance all season and thats going to be factored in to their decision. Several new commissioners are expected to be voted in next month so they may not be open to voting for the Panthers (most expect that they will not).

Since Yormark got that deal started, the casino was probably the only chance for the team to stay IMO. Just an FYI, the county aren't really the ones that say yes or no on the casino. In fact, the county commission is waiting for the State gov't to vote on that which wont happen until early 2015 to then vote on the money requested by Viola & Cifu (supposedly not until May).I think one thing that VV and Cifu were betting on with the Panthers was the casino.
If they can get that, then I think the Panthers stay. If the county says no to that, the Panthers losses will be too much for the Owners to bear.
