The Rangers organization is tight-lipped as it is due to Dolan's media policy, but it's even worse when trying to get information about a concussed player. The player suffering the concussion is like He Who Must Not Be Named and the organization will barely recognize the player's existence in public until he is almost fully recovered.

Pittsburgh would never be allowed to get away with such secrecy with Crosby, the Canadian media would be up in arms.

so you want the NY media to push harder for what information exactly? you bring up the Crosby situation and how there was more media attention there and what did the pens organization say about Crosby? next to nothing, it was all the same regurgitated bs about having a concussion and the different symptoms.

Its pretty cut and dry Nash has a concussion there's numerous different symptoms he could be experiencing but either way its all the same, or we can have the media poke and prod Nash for information about his headaches and how long they last, or maybe what kind of activity caused them, but what would that change hes got a concussion simple as that.

Wouldn't doubt Nash figures out how to hide it like Crosby did when the Olympics roll around.

Who says that you have to give media access to the player? No one is talking about given us daily updates about his headaches and whatnot anyway. But if he's seeing a specialist, the team can tell us that. If he's started skating, the team can tell us that. These are significant parts of the story. They can tell us these things while still saying that we have no timetable yet. Obviously, it comes out anyway. What's the point of keeping it a secret?

Actually, Shero and the Pens would hold press conferences and make themselves accessible to the media to inform them how much progress has been made in Crosby's recovery, what his doctors have said, if he's been skating, etc. It certainly wasn't the same boilerplate regarding concussions.

Numerous reports from Canadian analysts and Brooks have indicated that Nash has resumed skating on his own and that he is meeting with a concussion specialist. The organization isn't capable of releasing that information themselves?

Dreger in NHL tonight last night said "things are getting better for Nash he's skating EVERYDAY on his own and is slowly seeing progress. ". What gives? Hopefully Dreger is right, but how would he know and our own beat writers wouldn't? I guess that's why he's an insider.

Nash was dispatched to see Michigan-based concussion specialist Dr. Jeffrey Kutcher, a source told both ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun and ESPNNewYork.com’s Katie Strang, but that visit was not recent. The Rangers have sent a few of their other players to see Kutcher previously – he is the team’s preferred neurologist – so it’s hard to discern what that meeting bodes for Nash’s condition.

What other players have the Rangers sent to Kutcher? Staal saw a guy in Boston. Was Sauer sent to Kutcher? The last time Sauer was seen was in January 2012 after he began skating. He sat down for a chat with Jim Cerny and that was it. The symptoms came back and Sauer disappeared. On break-up day 2012,Tortorella made a comment about seeing Sauer earlier that day.

The beat writers on this team are an extension of the Rangers organization. They are afraid to get the Frank Isola treatment so they never criticize or question anything.

Gross slipped this into his preview of tonights game

Despite reports that Nash has occasionally skated lightly on his own at the Rangers’ practice facility, he is still not close to returning to the lineup.

Not sure if he's referencing Dreger though

I trust Dreger 10000000x more than our idiot beat writers.

So if Nash is skating everyday on his own, aren't the beat writers for the Rangers seeing this? It would make sense that they are. RB is right, these reporters are holding back information. Sather rules with an iron fist, it seems.

They'd only see it if he's skating at the training facility.

Georgia... those are the "gyroscope" guys that worked with Crosby?

Yes. Ted Carrick's lab. He's treated Crosby, Toews, Giroux, Latendresse among others.

Basically all we know at this point is that Nash was evaluated by Dr. Kutcher. He might be skating on his own. He might make a visit to Carrick's facility in Georgia.

When Cindy was out, there was an NHL.com headline about his progress everyday.

Pat Leonard reported last week Nash is in Manhattan. He must be skating at the Rangers facility when the media isn't around. Recently the Rangers haven't been in Greenburgh much. They now hold their game day skates at MSG. The Rangers did not hold their game day skates at the Garden under Tortorella. Either it was a renovation reason or Tortorella did not want to come into the city so early in the day. Most of the team lives in Manhattan. Vigneault lives in Manhattan. Days off after games. There have plenty of opportunities for Nash to resume workouts and skating without anyone knowing. They ask Rosasco and he says no change.

Because collectively our beat writers are amongst the worst in the business.

Taylor Pyatt would appear to have suffered a concussion on 11/7/13.

I'm sure that will make many here quite happy. Hope he's OK.

Don't like Pyatt as a player but I wasn't hoping he'd get a concussion. I think Tyutin's hit was a bad one--whether he meant to or not. It broke up our line combinations which is usually not a good thing. Could the Rangers ice a better lineup without Pyatt?--when Moore comes back I would think so.

The problem with concussions is that the NHL never gives a timetable because the best remedy for Concussions is rest. Some are more severe than others, but it all depends on what the players tell their doctors.

If Nash says he has no symptoms, he gets cleared. He gets cleared, he can skate.

The Ronnie Lotts and Rocket Richards are dead in sports. You'll never see a player ignore a doctor's advice. Nash will be out for quite some time.

hey guys, Hawks fan here in peace...

I was just trying to find some info on Michael Sauer. I have tried looking around for info on him and I haven't seen much. I am not sure if he is even still Rangers property or not, but he was having a bright promising career before injuries derailed that.

Would anyone have any info on him??? Did he retire?? Is he trying to come back?? Do the Rangers still have him under contract? Figured this the best place to ask. Damn shame, he was one of my favorite up and coming players...any info would be appreciated.

Rangers are my 2nd favorite team, ever since Patty Lafontaine wore the red, white, and blue!

Thanks

his contract with the Rangers expired and he's an UFA I believe. He hasn't formally retired, but last we heard he just can't play hockey. We haven't heard a ton of details but it seems like he's probably OK day to day life (there were some videos of him fishing with his brother awhile back) but like a lot of people with concussion problems, probably has issues when he tries to ramp up his activity level to where it'd need to be in able to train for hockey.

Rangers didn't give him a qualifying offer so he's a UFA as of now. There hadn't been an update on him in quite some time. Chances are his career is over because it seemed like he was still feeling effects of the concussion even though the hit occurred all the way back in December of 2011. Shame too because he did have a bright career. Hopefully it all works out for him and he can live a peaceful life if he can't come back to play hockey.
