It's almost the 2nd half and the final push to the playoffs is about to take shape and we have seen lots of roster moves made this season from within the organization and the time is now for urgency to salvage the season. With the emergence of Ceci Murrayhas some tough decisions that he is going to have to make on the roster. But if Ceci continues his brilliant play then forsure keep him up.

Pageau doesnt have much left to prove in the AHL but if his ice time becomes an issue send him back. But I'm not mad if Pageau uses the rest of the season to find his game in the NHL. To this point that's best for his development. And if he gets 12-15 mins a night I'm fine with it. Especially if he continues to get major minutes on the PK.

Here is what our lineup should look like unless we can upgrade our roster without mortgaging the future.

MacArthur Turris Ryan

Michalek Spezza Zibanejad

Conacher Pageau Condra

Greening Smith Neil

Cowen Karlsson

Methot Ceci

Phillips Wiercioch

#Michalek likely gets traded at the deadline for whatever and Stone takes his place. Hopefully Conacher, Zibanejad and Pageau step up their games and contribute to their fullest capabilities.

Not expecting many changes with the internal budget. Even this offseason. Next year I fully expect Stone to be here permanently

I would also trace Greening and take whatever you can get even if it's just a 5throunder. Not impressed at all with his play

I don't mind those line-ups, but there are two things I could see happening.

1 - Acquiring Moulson (maybe) at the deadline.
2 - Trading for Del Zotto as has been rumored for a while.

Michalek/Moulson - Spezza - Zibanejad/Michalek
MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Conacher - Pageau - Condra/Zibanejad
Greening - Smith - Neil

Cowen - Karlsson
Del Zotto - Methot
Phillips - Ceci

Anderson
Lehner

Also I don't have high hopes, or really hopes at all, for Mark Stone. His skating is just awful.

I agree with Stone but be careful he is the chosen saviour on these boards:sarcasm:

I'm so sick of this comment. His skating is not awful. It has improved a ton and still needs more, but it is far from awful.

How is it far from awful?

You do realize that statement was meant for in comparison to the NHL. Not US. In the NHL his skating would be bottom 50 for sure. Take the sens for example. He'd probably be tied for worse skater with gryba. He skates like he's in mollases.

The only single reason he's not in the NHL right now is his skating. If it was even average he'd be playing with the big team. His skating is so evidently what is holding him back. Its pretty clear hes a weak skater and that is what he has to overcome to make it to the bigs.

This.

His skating isn't far from awful -- it's is absolutely awful when looking at it relative to the NHL. He is a worse skater than anyone on the Sens right now, and considering the mobility struggles of guys like Spezza earlier in the year, Gryba and Wiercioch already that says a lot.

Stone's skating worse than The Nuclear Deterrant's? :help:

Line-up

Sorry if there is a thread about it (then merge it please) but didn't see any

What I think we should go with for the rest of the year :

Clarke MacArthur ($3.250m) / Kyle Turris ($3.500m) / Bobby Ryan ($5.100m)
???????????????????????? / Jason Spezza ($7.000m) / Mika Zibanejad ($0.894m)
Cory Conacher ($0.871m) / Zack Smith ($1.888m) / ????????????????????????
???????????????????????? / ????????????????????? / Chris Neil ($1.900m)
Matt Kassian ($0.575m)

Jared Cowen ($3.100m) / Erik Karlsson ($6.500m)
Marc Methot ($3.000m) / Patrick Wiercioch ($2.000m)
Chris Phillips ($3.083m) / Eric Gryba ($0.563m)
Joe Corvo ($0.900m)

Craig Anderson ($3.188m)
Robin Lehner ($0.870m)

* Pageau and Ceci in the minors to continue their development. Or trade a D-man because Ceci looks like he is ready to develop in the NHL. If we're not going to make the playoffs, we should focus on young players development, and Wiercioch needs ice-time and responsibility to reach another level

* Trade Michalek to try and shake things up in the forward group. He has been playing much better lately but still needs a change of scenery, he has been in Ottawa for a while. Moving him frees up some money as he makes more in salary than his cap hit this year. Good for a playoff team with lot of money but not a lot of cap space. Can add serious depht for them

* Trade Condra and Greening for whatever you can. Those guys are not coming back from injury and are not in their "sophomore slumps". They are showing more like they were a bit of a flash in the pan and stop gaps while the team was rebuilding... Now if we want to take the next step, it has to be without them IMO. They're about to take more space too. They have showed enough in the past that they should be tradeable.

Who can fill the 4 forward spots? What can we get for Michalek, and then for Greening and Condra? Should we only try to get picks and fill the rest with Bingo players?

Who should we call up then? Hoffman at 3rd line RW and let it play out for the rest of the year? Da Costa back? What about Stone and Petersson?

Agreed. Get rid of Kassian as well.

Call up Hoffman to play with Spezza. Spezza could really use his speed.

Conacher-Smith-Stone

Grant needs to be the 4th line center.

Last spot is for a body that comes back in a trade.

At this point I am starting to lose patience with the Senators and the season is looking more and more lost. No Urgency, Constistency etc. I agree with most of the points. Trade All of Condra, Greening and Michalek and get whatever you can.

I do not want to have to put up with Greenings contract after this year. If their is no takers than use a compliance buyout on him. Michalek and Condra you can get something. I don't know what but they have some value and a change of scenery could do Michalek well

If we're clearing house might as well trade Conacher too...

We should make room for Hoff, Da Costa, Petersson, i.e. guys we could lose without fully knowing what we have in them.

We need Da Bosta, The Hoff and Hands of Stone. Inject some new blood into the line up. I'm sure at least one of these guys would have out scored Conacher, Greening or Condra.
Trade spezza straight up for picks and prospects or fire Maclean, they dont mesh well system wise. Reward AHLers who have worked hard and send a message that failure is not except-able by throwing out players who have been mediocre. The season isn't about winning anymore its about building a system that works and teaching players to play it to a tee. No more getting dominated like we have for the last two seasons.

MACARTHUR-TURRIS-MICHALEK/zibby
HOFFMAN-DACOSTA-RYAN
CONACHER-SMITH-NEIL
KASSAIN-PAGEAU-STONE

Roll three line most of the time. Interchange michalek for ryan if you want.I'd also like to change pageau and conacher for a faceoff specialist and shut down forward

I'd have Spezza on the 1st line. He's our captain and our best centre, he should be there on the 1st line.

Has Toews ever outscored Spezza? Who has World Junior Gold and a Stanley Cup ring? Spezza is a has been... at least Turris can defend.

Trade Spezza, Michalek, Greening, Condra... make Phillips Captain until a suitable replacement comes along. Call up schneider and/or buddy robinson and pumpel for the bottom 6. See what Hoffman can do with top 6minutes. Trade Corvo.

McArthur/Turris/Ryan
Hoffman/Zibanejad/Conacher
Scheider/Smith/Puempel
Neil/Pageau/Robinson

Cowen/Karlsson
Ceci/Methot
Phillips/Gryba

Wiercioch...Boro.

All I know is Zibanejad should be the 3C at this pt of his development. He is much better as a C and has a higher ceiling there.
Find the best wingers for him and make a damn line out of it.
The coaching this yr is ****. Complete garbage ****.

well, if we trade Spezza he'll be our 2C. I have this fantasy line of
Stewart - Zibanejad - Simmonds.. would be beastly, but we cant get both of those guys.
