This is insanity . Zadina + pac for Svech and they are saying " hard pass" LMAO go back to your budget team, this is just plain dumb to refuse this ridiculous proposal.

If Montreal had #2 and the Canes offered #3 + Skinner then Montreal shouldn’t do it either. Svechnikov is just that much better.

I am trying to stay away from the negative comments as it don't help in negioation. I just want no part of this deal because I am not desperate for the #2 pick. My plan is to take Zadina and trade Patch to the Panthers for their 1st and B type prospect (And another conditional pick if he re-signs). Then I take who is left from Veleno, Kotkaniemi, Hayton, Kupari. Habs are in a much better situation in this case vs the proposal in this thread

From a Habs perspective, Zadina and a fringe grade A prospect at Center (with other pieces) > Svechnikov

The difference between Svech and Zadina is gigantic. 1 year of Patches does not get you the much better player.
I agree the consensus pick is Svechnikov, but that gap isn't that big. I've seen some lists where Zadina was #2, and it would not be a crazy thing.

I would never do that deal, I'm just fine with Zadina or whoever we pick, I don't see the difference between two of the 3 best prospects to be worth Patches, like at all.

Disagree the difference between Svechnikov and Zadina is "gigantic". I give the edge to Svechnikov for sure though. 12 months from now, the story with these top 10 picks will be much different. Some will stall in development... happens all the time

You know...
I'd rather take Zadina 3rd and trade Pacioretty for a package including a 1st from around #10-#15 (or higher obviously if that somehow could work lol).

Zadina not expected to be a superstar ? wtf ? HAve you read any of the scouting centrals ? he is destined to be a star in the league.
Before Montreal got the third pick you were all saying how good Zadina was, but when MTL got the pick it all changed so quickly..

but the Zadina " won"t be a superstar" had my laugh. the top 3 pick this year are all destined to be superstar. go read some reports for god sakes.

I'm not sure I have Zadina in the top-5 come draft day personally, so in my opinion yes the gap is gigantic. But that is all opinion based thinking.

I just don't see the value for the Canes being a cap team that won't re-sign him, and don't have serious Stanley Cup aspirations next season. At best they trade him at the deadline for a 1st+, but even then they're essentially getting the worse prospect (by a lot in my eyes), a late 1st and maybe a prospect from a contender.

This is one of those proposals where everyone is better off saying "nope!"

Montreal could get better value for MaxPac elsewhere.

Carolina is better off keeping #2 and taking Svechnikov, rather than downgrading to Zadina and adding a pending UFA who we won't re-sign and flip at the TDL for more depth futures we don't need.

So all you say is based on your personal belief... which is fine by me, but doesn't provide much in arguments in a "debate".

The issue is an opinion of the gap being gigantic to justify the trade with the Habs who prefer not to make the trade. It won't work with convincing us (majority of us anyways). There are a lot of Habs fans high on Svechnikov. However, I do know the Canes are very much interested in Zadina too. So the Habs will select whoever is left at the 3rd spot. It's pretty simple for us. Then we see what 1st and other piece we can get with Patch.

Sorry, this trade proposal is not one we are interested in

How would you mess up if you have pac+ ZADINA. hhahahahahahahah how is this a mess up ?
it depends on how you rank these prospects.

at the draft Oilers fans would have laughed at Eberle+Puljujarvi for Laine..CBJ fans would have laughed at something similar considering they held the #3OA pick. Now it would be the other way around.
Same goes for McDavid and Eichel+Reinhart.

If there is a clear tier between the 2 players a pending UFA does not move the stick for a rebuilding team.

Well that's fine. All scouting/rankings are opinion based. Still didn't stop me from taking Puljujarvi out of my top-3 as well in 2016.

That's fine. I have no horse in the race. I just don't see the value for the Canes moving forward.

Exactly this. You might, or might not be right. We just can't know.
