If the Canes got that offer and were going to take Zadina anyway, they should jump on it. I, however, would prefer to take Svechnikov. And if I were a Habs fan, I'd be pretty upset at that trade as I don't see enough of a difference between Svechnikov and Zadina to throw Patches in there.

what in the world makes Canes fans refusing this ? it's a terrrrrrrible over payment by Montreal. For god sake accept this and run, Carolina...

jeez, sometimes just because it came from the Habs it makes people automatically refusing the proposal.

The same thing that makes some Habs fans propose the deal...they prefer Svechnikov substantially over Zadina. I do as well. Although I can see the arguments for Zadina at #2, I think Svechnikov is the better player and by enough that I'd just stand pat even if given the offer in the OP. That said, if the Canes management sees them as very close or Zadina as being better, of course they should jump on such an offer.

Canes fans are refusing this because while it's a ridiculous overpayment, especially looking at 2018-19, it really is a worse outcome 2019-20 onward for us than simply doing nothing. It makes us better next year, but that's it. We're 100% certain not trying to re-sign Max Pacioretty.

Rather have Svechnikov for the next 7 years than 7 years of Zadina, 2/3 to 1 season of MaxPac, and what we can get at the TDL for Pacioretty if we're out of contention. (And being out of contention post-trade is by-far the better trade outcome.)

it's a ridiculous over payment. I wouldn't accept it from Mtl pov. a 30-40, hell even 40+ goals scorer with a decent center, plus Zadina who plays with grit and passion and will be a pretty amazing sniper in the league, for a better sniper than Zadina ( by a medium margin, yet we have to see them in the NHL). Zadina is not that far from Svech, sure I would pick svech before Zadina but it's insanity to refuse that offer.

I can already tell you that Svech is gonna scores more goals, but Zadina will be a mvp playoff player. He got so much more Grit and passion in him.

Not insane. It is only overpayment for one year if Patches doesn't like playing in Carolina. Then he moves on and it is Svech for Zadina plus maybe a late first if you flip Patches at the deadline. That would not be fair value, so you also have to look at what you think the deal would look like in two or three years.

Then MTL should be tickled pink to draft Zadina and keep Pacioretty. CAR will be very happy with Svechnikov, and thanks for playing.

Ya this forum post brings nothing new.
MTL will draft Zadina, or our dumb ass GM will trade him for an old passé-date proven center like Kesler, Toews or Carter.
CAR will draft Svech and will make the playoff if you find a decent Goaltender.

Svechnikov is certainly the higher graded prospect, but Zadina not far behind, and I think is a much better fit for us anyway. Montreal fans are being silly desperately trying to move up. If Svechnikov was a center it would make more sense, but both guys are left handed wingers...

Carolina, a budget organization that can't afford to make too many mistakes with contracts, is unlikely to be the team that gives Pacioretty, who will turn 31 in the first year of his next deal, that big UFA contract. He'd end up getting flipped for a mid to late-1st and expendable prospect at some point.

If you ignore Pacioretty's name value, this isn't a can't miss deal for Carolina if the Canes view Svechnikov as the better prospect.
