Babcock said he'll play Datsyuk and Zetterberg together unless Abdelkader plays, in which case they'll be split. Abdelkader questionable.

I would think it would be the opposite.

I just realized I accidentally voted for wings lose in 7 instead of wings win in 7 :|

After some "scouting", Cooper has used Palat-Johnson-Kucherov line against other teams top line throughout the season. It takes second most offensive zone faceoffs. Killorn - Stamkos - Sallahan takes most offensive zone faceoffs.

My god I like this matchup.

So, if it goes that way, Babcock is gonna use helm-Dats-Zetts and Miller-Glendy-Ferraro in defensive zone faceoffs against those Tampa's offensive zone lines.

I really could believe, Palat-Johnson-Kucherov will be shut down totally by Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Our Selke-twins if somebody is able to do that.

And, Luke Glendening has shut down Crosby twice at this season, so why not Stammer?

Again, I really, really like these matchups. Really like.

how about our offensive zone lines against Tampa's defensive zone lines?

Tatar - Sheahan - Nyquist will face Namestnikov - Filppula - Paquette. This matchup will decide the series. And I really feel our guys in this matchup are more dangerous to score.

Morrow - Boyle - Drouin will face Weiss - Andersson - Jurco, Drouin could do some damage but I believe these lines will play zero-zero against each other.

I like these matchups too. Filppula is gonna have a loooong series against Gus and Tatar -show.

***

Defences are quite equal (both defences have scored 25 goals, are -120 vs. -124 in giweaways/takeaways plus/minus, and have 242 vs. 250 games of playoff experience. Very equal.

And Bishop-Mrazek? Both have zero games playoff experience. hard to find any differencies in here. Playoffs are different world in mental games. Can Bishop handle the pressure? we know that our future golden kid can.

But those offensive matchups... we really have good chance to make a huge 1st round upset.

Tampa's game lives for keeping the puck. 1st of all, we are better faceoff team (51.5% vs. 49.7%). We have a better faceoff guy for almost every faceoff matchup (Datsyuk vs. Johnson, Glendening vs. Stamkos, Filppula vs. Sheahan, Andersson vs. Boyle). So we should have bigger probability to keep and control the puck after a faceoff.

We also have more total takeaways and better giweaways/takeaways ratio (+29 vs. +14) at forward corps, so if Tampa has the puck, we have a bigger probability to get it back.

IF we can control the puck, Tampa is taken out from their game. If also our defensive zone lines (centered by Dats and Glendening) will shut down Tampa's offense (as those favored matchups should be able to do), we will win the series, if our goaltending even equals the opposite team goaltending. We don't need better goaltending in this series, just equal, but bad goaltending will kill our chances for sure.

My concern with Glendening facing Stammer is that it will only take Stamkos a couple shots to make a difference; he is a MUCH more prolific goal scorer than Crosby. Glendening and Miller better wear some kind of extra protection..

He shut down Zach Parise. Not sure how good he is (with goal scoring)

How did Glen do against Ovechkin?

Ovechkin plays at wing, so then it's Glendy-line winger Miller (who has played both sides at this season depending the opposite teams strongest winger) who plays against AO (or some other strong winger). In latest game we lost at home for Capitals, Ovechkin did kind of nothing at even strength.

Their game is just to GET ThE PUCK OUT from our own zone, no matter what. That "shuts down" the opposite offense.

Parise had a 40 goal season in 08/09 I think. If Im not mistaken he is a 30 goal scorer this year too, so Parise is no slouch but he isn't potting 40-50 annually either. To be honest I missed a couple games against washington this season so I do not know exactly how glendening matched up, I remember seeing datsyuk vs. ovie a lot in their most recent matchup though.

Stammer will need a great playmaking wing to be dangerous. Martin St. Louis was superb in it, but he is now a Ranger. Currently, he plays with Killorn and Callahan, who are kind of grinders. Stammer is so alone on that line, he is not playmaker-type like Zetterberg, who can carry two pylons, he needs a feeder. In that kind of line combination (with two grinders) he is not hard to shut down. he is lethal weapon on a power-play, but at ES, not so much. Easy food for Glendening.
